Big Bore Kit/Conversion

#1 Post by GregD-UK » Thu Jul 03, 2014 12:09 am

Hi all,

I have just had my bike dyno'd and have 118hp at the back wheel. I rideout with my amigos who, alas, ride busa's (got no chance!). So, was wondering if doing the bore kit would add some horses and compete with them somewhat...

Anyone know approx cost and also was thinking about chucking in a 2004 magnesium engine :smt002

Cheers men :smt110

P.S. Who does this work of the devil in the UK!
My warranty is the clear/smoked tail lights around the corner!!

I asked griff for a quote. I have a spare engine with broken ceses.

The heads are the big valve type.

The cost to have the heads swapped over and the big bore fitted with setting the bike up with 54's and a power commander was about 1800 quid.

I would be supplying the pc.
Tolerance will be our undoing.

More midrange is always attractive but if you are struggling to keep up with your mates on the road with a Falco I suggest you don't ride out with them. They must be nutters!

Big Bore Kit...

#4 Post by GregD-UK » Thu Jul 03, 2014 8:38 am

Hi all,

That sounds like a few dollars for how much difference? Well nibbs, the busa men ride up to scotland and those sweeping roads can be fast and long way between pit stops. They know the roads bstter than me, still wait for me at junctions though...

Might save my pennies and see what my piggy bank can hold :smt007

Can't remember the dyno figures that Griff was getting but they were quite impressive.
They are never going to make the Falco a Bussa though (and a jolly good thing too)

I have considered the upgrade myself (not that it will really be of any benefit on most of my riding which is commuting in Coventry!)

The time the costs would be more "affordable" are if you decided that a valve check service was too much of a PITA to do yourself and you were thinking of putting it in to Griff to get that done. Obviously most of the service items will be attended to in the engine rebuild so a good chunk can be offset.

costs...

Hi all.

Yes DR, all about the dollars! Might find a guy who can bore out and get nicosel coating done. That would be a alot of the donkey work done, then just a re-build to do

In addition to Griff's 1060cc kit, there is also an 1127cc kit from a Swedish outfit:

You had to do it didn't you. You couldn't just keep your mouth quiet, it takes us long enough to come up with an excuse for medium mods, now we all have to find an excuse that allows me to spend £3000 on a massive bore kit and some cams :smt022

Greg, just buy yourself a busa for those trips to Scotland and take them to more local roads on the falco where you can beat them

Griff can get about 140bhp+, but I imagine that is the later gen1s with big valve heads, the figures. Think the last one dyno'd did about 145?

I have a later engine sat waiting in the shed for just such a conversion, along with some 57mm throttle bodies already adapted as they were off a gen1.

Oh and I currently have 118bhp at the back wheel too.

Hi all.

£2900 to turn my falco into a fire-breathing dragon :smt067

Just seen a turbo busa engine in a bespoke frame with aprilia running gear on youtube. That sounds like a cunning plan. Who wants to chip in :smt007

Yes, a mad bike for scotland and a sedate 118bhp falco for local rides....

Where's my piggy bank!
