When the battery is run down or is disconnected you get to experience the delights of a dash reset. Good fun at petrol stations.
Speed/trip goes to kmh.
Shift light/rev counter needle position on start goes to 6k.
Clock (time telling type) goes to zero.
Trip counter goes to zero.
Trip rolls over to zero at 1000 km regardless of if you have the clocks on MPH or not. So 600 odd miles then back to zero.
