flatish battery - rough running

#1 Post by wilsyface » Sat Nov 03, 2012 6:43 am

help me out someone,
im sure uve read about this somewhere
started my falco yesterday after being stood for about week and a half, battery was a bit reluctant turning it over so it didnt fire up, clocks reset themselves etc

Charged battery up for a few hrs, started bike fine, ran ok for a minute or so, went away leaving it runnning, came back few mins later and its coughing and spitting like a missfire

Any ideas anyone ?

Thanks

Left the idle advance on too far?

And too long?

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Bit hard to tell on a one off like that. Mabe battery is totally shot so voltage is low after starting and spark not very strong. Could be first sign of one of the wiring loom issues a couple of us have had recently.

Shitted up plugs ?
If it was a battery voltage issue, it would not have started or would not run.Me thinks as if you cant power the ECU you cant run
Have a look at the vacuum pipes, the smallest crack or split will make it tick over un evenly and run like a bag of poo,no acceleration but guzzling fuel

yep fatboy normaly if the battery'll turn it over and start it up then it should be in a good enough state to keep the voltage up. However my thinking was that if it was not holding charge but just managed having come straight off the charger to fire the bike up, the voltage might be rapidly dropping there after at tickover.

Any ways I'd be looking for a trend to see what could be eliminated.

How old is the battery ?
Start and run the bugger then leave parked up for a few hours, check voltage, much less than 12.3 is the prverbial pissing in the wind, or take it to a battery place, they will 'drop' test it. But then they'd tell you its shagged anyway so you will buy a new one
Must say Im vvv impressed with Motobatt baterry, took tons of start/restart type stuff doing major sevice/testing... Busters Acc £47.49 delivered
