caution

#1 Post by paddyz1 » Tue Jun 26, 2012 10:41 pm

There are a few items that have come up for sale recently on this site.
May i just remind people to beware when buying from new posters.
There have been scams on other forums and people getting ripped off.
If you personally collect then this should be no problem.
Sorry if the sellers are genuine.

And so as new posters don't feel too alienated, most will be completely genuine - it's just that nobody will have really had a chance to get to know them and so a bit of caution may be exercised - especially when it involves big lots of cash.

The forum doesn't endorse any members selling on here - it's all an individual thing between members - however one or two of those on here have shown the odd sign that they may be fairly trustworthy

For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.

shhhh! I'm doing my best to instil a bit of confidence in us in the hope that people won't realise it's without any real basis

I personally think new posters coming on just to flog their wares is a bit cheeky. I'm all for making a few quid, but signing up to forums just to sell stuff is a bit c**tish IMO.
Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handle bars to the saddle.

True .... though some won't have been so far from us - we do get a lot of lurkers that visit the forum over many years and use it as a resource. I'm sure we'd love them to join in the fun but some people are a bit more shy than others.
Perhaps some that appear to be joining only to sell have felt themselves part of us for a long time but either joined and never posted or just lurked but never joined.

There will, of course, be some who have never had any affinity and just see us as a cheap way of flogging what they have got. If any on here get some bargains from it, then that's fine ..... but I have a lot of sympathy with your viewpoint.

I get proper arsey with traders who try and scab free selling space and often get to them before they get onto the site, usually emailing them with 'fuck off' in advance when I see their website listed in their profile when they apply for membership. SOMETIMES I look and go, 'well actually, they'll be useful to the guys' such as GulpStella who joined recently.
He listed in his profile that he was an Electrician and Bike Breaker, which I found a useful addition to have kicking about the place. I dont think he's a trader per se so much as just a guy breaking bikes to make some money... errm.. if you see what i mean..

I did cry loudly 'Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!' when I saw him put up two of God's own RSVR Aprilias beimg broken. I spent the whole evening being unconsolable that someone could break two RSVRs but eventually realised that there would be a chance for our guys to get some pickings and at reduced prices (normal, sensible, non up themselves prices) compared to fuckwitbay.

I do agree that it's 'not good form' to just go straight in and try and sell yer shizzle, but GS did make it known to me what he did before he got to the forum by putting it in his profile so I consider it acceptible in his case..

Plus the fact he's an electrician may aide some of our blokes who seem to have loads of gremlins lurking inside their bikes...

As always BUYER BEWARE and on your own shoulders be it. We've had long established blokes from the forum in the past trying to get one over another newer member buying a bike, so it isn't necesarily new blokes that pose a problem.. take each sale at face value, employ commonsense, own a big stick and youll be alright.. we hope.. with your transactions.

If people want, we can impose a system whereby a member wishing to sell shizzle on the forums has to be a member for a certain amount of time and have a certain post count? Say 2 weeks and a 20 post count? Everyone can judge them then and shout 'foul' should this not be complied with?.. the resulting member then having their ad deleted and be given a 'Sales Troll' tag for a further 2 months?

The trouble with that is people know that this is the place to find a buyer.. we could shoot ourselves in the foot with preventing these people selling you guys shiny blingy stuff.. especially if they have it listed esewhere

Anyhoo.. just some musings.

What you need is an older reputable site member to act as an agent, then it's OK!
I know somebody who has brokered two deals involving the same black Falco in the last year or so and both parties were happy each time.
We just need to agree the agent's fee for future deals

currently, i think the system is about right

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

I will happily buy off a new member but only if they are within my traveling distance and pay with COD.
I would not send by pay pal. There are a few members on here who have my trust and who i would have no problem sending cash to (only for parts ) :smt002
