Is it insurance rated ?
If not is it worth getting one that is (ABUS,ERA ect )
I had massive ERA deadlocking padlock, and chain, when the bars were on full left lock the chain went through the front wheel, round the top of the sidestand... impossible to kick the stand up or turn the bars, almost impossble to break the lock with a bar as it was off the ground
( the lock was rated against a 5 foot rail line lever bar, 20 mins of attack on the ground)
Anything that deters a thieving shitbag is a good thing

Sorry, no 'links' yet,not had time to look into it
If a lock and/or chain is 'Insurance Rated' it will be marked as
'Sold Secure' is also something to look out for, it means it has been tested to the point of failure by the Master Locksmiths Institute (who better to test a lock ? )
Sold secure gives you some info as to what they did to make the device fail, thats how I know about my ERA lock
Maybe Google Sold Secure M/cycle lock ?

If you get something with a sold secure or thatcham rating you MIGHT be able to get some knocked off your insurance. Depends on the insurer and what security discounts you already have like alarms, datatag etc. Course if you're claiming to use one you better had or they'll get all shitty.
I bought an Oxford Monster. It's huge. I don't bother chaining it to the bike I just use it to twat anybody suspicious looking.

indeed. if you declare you have a lock and at the time the bike gets nicked you weren't using it, you'll probably find they refuse your claim. That's why I never declare my disc lock and lock & chain.

The idea is to take something for a bit of added security when in scotland
And no i have not declared it on my insurance.
Plus it will be chained to a BMW GS Adventure one of the heaviest bikes i have come accross

I didn't bother with a 'sold secure' lock for the trike cos the saving on my insurance was less than the cost of the lock!
- and don't say trikes don't get nicked - cos they do! but there may be a trike fairy about as when some friends had their trike stolen the frame broke while it was being ridden and the scroat ended up in hospital with broken bones (thus saving my mate the trouble)!
