Apparently it's alright for an HGV driver to be over the centre line of the road, but not for a motorcyclist to ride anywhere near it even if he's on his own side.

Crazy and outrageous decision. This takes "the law is an ass" to a new level.

That said, what on earth possessed the rider to admit that he was partly liable as he agreed he wasn't appropriately positioned - despite being in a place he was completely entitled to be and who knows how ideal the position was or wasn't as we are not given enough info.
That ridiculous admission has led to a judgement that could be used as a precedent against any of us.

I hope the BMF pursue and win this one for all of us

'Your dance space, my dance space.' simple as. Road position is irrelevant. You're allowed to travel at any position in your lane.

Even so, what on earth was his lawyer doing by not advising him in the implications of answering in a way that could be construed to mean it like that?!

The lawyer was probably a non-biker too - always pays to go to bike specialists that understand the situation.

What is blatantly clear is that many people involved are of no use whatso ever to the justice system.
If the lorry was too wide for that particular section of road then an 'outrider' should have been used to warn adancing traffic, as you would see in front of a combined harvester

Too high a standard imposed on the lorry driver? FFS you should be able to drive to the highest standard to drive the fucking thing safely

I expect all drivers of any vehicle and all riders to drive to an exceptional standard. Unfortunately, they don't, which is why I have eye's looking out the hole in my arse when driving. The standard of driving and riding in this country is appalling, but this takes the piss.. I really don't know how some people sleep at night.

You sir are being generous. 90% of the drivers in this country shouldn'd be allowed a bicycle, let alone be in charge of a motorised vehicle.

Also the gentleman in question looks a few marbles short.

The BMF should let this go, after all he admitted culpability. Its cut and dried

.... and as at least 90% of them don't ride a bicycle, self regulation seems to be winning on that part of the debate
