Not surprised .... these cunning linguists can fool anyone.
The way that some of them can roll their r's can be a distraction ..... though that's less of a French thing - they tend to do that thing with their r's deep in their throat.

Had a similar moment myself this evening. Got ready to go to An Evening with Nick Sanders, at Streetbike, Halesowen.
Rang the friend I was going with - 'Shouldn't we be moving soon?'

I turned up at bike club night to ind no-one else there. Rotten lot, I thought, I didn't want to turn out either. And went home.
Hm. Should've been there the week before..............
