Just reading throught the latest issue of practical sportsbike magazine, and it appears there is now a company in the U.K making replacement bodywork in injection moulded plastic and not GRP the company is;
prototype plastic components, the guy is called martin and the phone number is 07939 556436, email plasticprototypeparts@hotmail.co.uk.
He says, and i quote "if they can send me a part from which i can make a mould, and they pay for the mould, they can then have as many as they like. a minimum run would be 20 parts from the same mould, but the beauty of it is once the mould is made, making extra parts would be easy..."
Could be promising for all those hard to get panels.

Except the reason you need a panel is cos you haven't got one to send to him?

He happens to be a very good friend of mine and has been making parts for years. He's recently invested in some new equipment which will help him to improve his already vast range of plastics. He has got the contacts to source panels to make pattern's from if needed..

This sounds very interesting indeed. Speaking as one who also owns a VFR750 Honda from 1988, this could be very good news; just as long as he has a source for the QD fastener captive nuts that Honda employed on these bikes. The tags containing these fasteners break off with minimal provocation and are almost impossible to re-fix correctly...

Thinking aloud. If he made a mould of something with decals stuck to it do all the others come with decal alignment marks?

I thought it would be worth putting the word out, was toying with the idea of giving him my KR1s fairing and getting 20 made to sell on, if i get no joy from them.

having looked into this previously, the mould seemed to be hugely expensive so you really need to sell a few to pay for it

circa £3k for the mould and 20 top fairings for kr1s, as the are like hens teeth and scruffy ones go for £150, i think i could easliy sell 20 at £200 each, would make a grand on the 1st lot, and would have the mould exclusively for my use for further orders. that £1k would allow me to get another mould done of another rare bodywork part etc.
If i made £200 profit each time id be a happy man
