UK MoT test will remain yearly.

The Government's plan to change the annual MoT test to a European-style biennial inspection has been abandoned, with more emphasis to be placed on raising industry standards and tightening current regulations.

Rightly so to. Some of the badly maintained shonkers on the roads now should be sent to the scrappy. If they did extend the check to 2 years the situation would be horrific.

For once I agree with VOSA. And that won't happen very often. :smt011

I'm glad too.

It's hard enough remembering when it's due when it's the same time each year - just think how many would forget if it was only done every other year.

They don't in France. Is that such a big problem? Most bike owners I know are well on top of their bike maintenance, to a degree that probably exceeds the testing regime.

Car owners will drive around in a death trap, blissfully unaware that they are endangering their own lives and potentially many others.

Motorcycle owners, far less so if at all.

That's why it's a problem..

So if it's such a problem, why don't we reduce it to 6 months and be even safer? This is getting into 'Nanny knows best' health and safety territory.

My point is that a yearly testing regime for cars is probably appropriate, given the general lack of knowledge, care and concern in the 4 wheel community.

Bikes on the other hand do far less miles per year than cars and are normally owned by people who do actually give a f**k. Therefore I regard a test every two years as appropriate for two-wheeled vehicles.

I'd probaly extend that to 3-wheelers as well, were it not for Reliant Robins...

Bugger.

Meant to say "test every two years" or 'bi-annual test'.

Double bugger. But the edit button is my friend... :smt003
