Admin's Log 21/01/12

#1 Post by Kwackerz » Sat Jan 21, 2012 12:06 pm

Well we're getting nowhere fast at the moment with changes to the Site. All hope is not lost though and things will continue to be thrashed out when time permits.

Anyway. I thought it best to use this 'Log' to reflect on a few things and to also bring some stuff to people's attention, both for new people and old.

RiderSite.. and Aprilia RiderSite have been going for a while.. over the (many many) years many people have come and gone, many people have made solid friendships as a result of the site (and a few enemies..) and we've even had marriages occur as a result of connection thru the Site.

There's been highs and lows, troughs and peaks as we've gone along as a site, new admins, mods and the like. Sam (Samray) and I took over the day to day running of RS back in 2006 with this version. Since then we've brought a sinking (at the time) ARS on board and the Site has continued along its merry way, Sam doing a lot of stuff that people dont see. I know Ive noticed it and can appreciate exactly what effort Sam has put in.

Norfolk Rallies, although small have continued and a lot of that is down to Sam's efforts, what with securing the use of facilities and the hard work slaving away behind the scenes cooking and hosting. I know it's all greatly appreciated by those who have been involved and it didnt go unnoticed.

It seems Sam's talents are in great demand with a warning order for a posting to a higher echelon having been issued. :smt012

I'll simply paste some of what Sam announced to the Mods on the Mod Channel..
Reports of my demise are not true, just slightly premature and in view of family stuff that is already widespread on the web I thought I'd best just give an account straight from the horses mouth to set the record straight.
My 2 yr old belly ache was eventually confirmed as pancreatic cancer which is incurable. A consultant surgeon signed a form yesterday stating that my life expectancy was less than 6 months, a form that is necessary for me to be able to claim certain benefits. I have already had a stent fitted in my bile duct, unfortunately this has collapsed and the procedure will have to be repeated next week.(I hadn't realised the damned things are only expected to last 3 months anyway! Mine lasted more like 3 days.) I will probably be starting chemotherapy by then as well. This may help reduce the pain and also stop the cancer growing/spreading. On the subject of pain, I am on ever increasing amounts of morphine that I am aware are affecting me in many ways. You may have to excuse erratic posts/behaviour from time to time. For anyone interested in how the symptoms manifest themselves, I'm peeing tar, pooing shaving foam and
shortly to have a new hole in the ozone layer named after me ... Save your sympathy for those living with me!
I'll have to say something on the main forum at some stage, but goodness knows what or how.

Having spoke to Sam, I said I would 'do the deed' and announce things to all.

It's a bit shit*.. as many will know Sam is my Dad, so it's a subject very close to my heart.

As I said before, it's just the warning order.. not a posting order.. the old man will be around for a while (albeit with a orange tango palour) but we thought you all, the family that is RiderSite, should know.

:smt001 On a positive note, the darkened skies have just opened up into bright sunlight as I type this. Which is nice. Enjoy the weekend and I'll leave you with a pic of Sam's tango suntan! The young 'un is jack, My youngest

Thanks for that post Tim, it must have been hard to do. The news, as you say, is shit. I've known you both a long time and I feel like Sam is family.
I hope they can sort things out a bit so he doesn't have to take a lot of morphine - I knew of another biker in his position who was able to carry on riding right up till the last few weeks and knowing sam I'm sure he has lots of living to do!

Sorry to hear that Kwackez.

I share your feelings; my grandad started chemotherapy last week for his skin cancer (rather ironic as he hates the sun), but unfortunately it has spread so things do not look good. Also, my girlfreind's grandad has been told he only has a couple of weeks left, once a again due to cancer.

So things are a bit shit all round really. :(

On a side note, if you need a hand with the website, I am a fully fledged web developer (hopefully soon to be employed for that purpose). Just give me a shout.

Dale

I can't say how sorry I am to read the above. As others have said, this site does feel like family in a way that no other site has done for me. I don't know what elso to say, really, except that I hope Sam has a stay of execution and that we have a truly excellent summer that he can enjoy to the utmost with family and friends.

Some of us have been aware of this for a while and I think that the thoughts of folk really say it all

Unusually for me I have nothing else to add - we just care

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

As a newcomer to this site, I hope Im not intruding. A difficult post for you to make Kwackerz.
I doubt Im alone in saying that folk like Samray make all our lives a bit more intersting and humourus with his probably tireless efforts with all things bike and otherwise, hard to know what to say but best wishes and 20 out of 10 to you Samray

... shared the pleasure of Sam's hospitality in two sojourns to Norfolk. He is a real character. My best wishes. One day at a time and all that. Hang in there too, Tim (I know exactly what you're going through). :smt006

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handle bars to the saddle.

Blinkey - when I was quite young I had the same problem and someone rather wise told me there are no right words - it doesn't matter what you say as long as you say something.
The tragedy of old age is not that one is old, but that one is young.
