Further to paddyz1 post re the tossers in Brussells wanting to impose blanket T/A laws to stop us modding our bikes for the better. D rider mentioned that there may be a few legal flaws with the petition that PZ1 linked. I know Motor Sickle News are baring teeth over this so I had a look,they ave linked a site, if it receieves 100,000 signatures that means the topic MUST be debated in parly ment.

Mororbikes? It's not that much text to check through!! And it has such importance you would have thought the author would take a few seconds to check over it!

Many many thanks to who ever linked the address I posted (too tired too thick to work it out myself )
If you are busy tarting your bike up over winter, fitting rear sets, race levers, crash bungs, natty seat cover ect then bloodly well pay attention cos soon those mods may be illegal so stop looking at bike porn and please sign the epetition

Agree with musclebiker though - it does diminish the impact when simple typos like that are made in a petition.

What do you expect when UKIP are involved?
I agree with this matter but won't be aligning myself in any way with UKIP - hopefully I can find an alternative petition.

Trouble is that too many people will start a petition along the same lines and they either get thrown out or it waters down the whole petition thing as people all sign different ones.
They should have groups for people to search through.. 'Housing, transport, medical, military... etc which might make the whole process easier. might not, but might.

From my observation, the most common area that they fail is:
E-petition guidelines
All e-petitions must call for a specific action from the government.
If an e-petition does not include a clear statement explaining what action you want the government to take, it will be rejected.

People that start petitions that don't follow the guidelines are:
- * Wasting their own time
* Wasting the time of those who sign the petition
* Raising false hope that their petition will actually do something
* Making it more difficult for others to put together an effective petition as people won't understand which to support and effort will be diluted.
It's a shame the validity requirements are not officially confirmed
before a petition is opened for people to sign
Another annoying thing is where people start petitions but miss important and significant points from them ..... and, of course, there is no means to add them later (obviously the case as early signers could not be expected to embrace things that weren't originally there)

Interestingly, although this proposed legislation is coming through Europe, the responsible committee appears to be chaired by a British Tory ... so it seems that the blame can't be laid entirely at the door of Johnny and Francoise the famous Foreigner twins.
.... and just to give you even more confidence that "our man in charge" has his finger on the pulse and our best interests at heart, he was recently interviewed:
The Chair of European Parliament’s lead committee on anti-tampering proposals did not know who they applied to when questioned by MCN.
Malcolm Harbour, Chairman of European Parliament’s Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee, did not know whether the proposals were to prevent performance modifications to all motorcycles or only those used by riders with power restrictions on their licences.
The West Midlands Tory MEP, who has been guiding other members of the Conservative group on how to vote on the plans, said: "I will have to get back to you because I have been following it but I have lots of other dossiers to follow."
Asked how he had been in a position to vote and guide votes of others without knowing the answer, he said: "Because as Chairman of the committee, I was also dealing with tractors, I, you know, the amount of work that we have to do is substantial. We’ve had a whole big proposal on tractors going through at the same time."
He said: "I agree that we should give you an exact comment on that and I’m sorry it’s not very clear. My only excuse is that I’m not the only person working on it and there is a large amount of other stuff in here as well that we’ve been focussing on.”
Harbour eventually clarified that manufacturers would introduce anti-tampering measures to all new bikes under the proposals.
Riders who do manage to 'substantially' modify a bike will have to submit it for inspection. If the machine was originally type approved as meeting a licence power restriction, it will not be allowed to exceed that limit. "I now have the details in front of me," said Harbour.
Harbour added: "These are still draft proposals. We’re not near at the moment to a final set of agreements. The parliamentary process is quite a long one."
