... service kits? Falco kit would be in the region of £58 plus postage and consist of 4l Castrol GPS 10/40, HiFlo long filter and 4 NGK iridium plugs. Other bikes wouldn't be a problem, but I haven't priced any others up yet.

Don't know if that would be popular, or how it compares to shop prices. What says you all?

Can also do Yuasa YTX14BS batteries for £49.37 plus postage as well if you like. What would demand be like, worth my while getting them in?

I do believe that 15/50 is the correct oil for the rotax how much could you do a kit for with that grade of oil please

the official owners handbook states 15/50 semi synthetic

Aprilia issued an advisory note to their dealers in 1999 stating that 10/40 would be fine - this was done as some bikes had had clutch slip problems....

Now - a couple of other things to consider - Broadly speaking if your falco is <2002 production then stay with semi synth - if you don't then there is a very high liklihood of clutch slip

later models - olympic bronze, oasis greens etc seem to be ok with full synthetic oil

personally, I am now running 10/40 semi - i have run 15/50 in the past and seen no difference in real terms - bar the cost!
I have tried full synth 15/50 once - clutch slipped like a bastard - very expensive as it ended up being used around the workshop for other things.....

I could also be interested btw Nooj - may i suggest that you also consider the short filters - they are about 5 quid from halfrauds....

It wasn't quite that strong an endorsement of 10/40 oil.
The bulletin (see below) suggests that you try this if you have certain clutch issues and have also tried other things first to resolve them.
It seems more like a suggestion of last resort than an endorsement that it is as suitable as the 15/50.

If you look at the date of the bulletin you will see that it's in the very early days of Falco production before they improved the clutch. I think it unlikely that riders of anything other than the Crow Black or Fire Red Falcos will need to resort to 10/40 - though I'm not certain of exactly when the improved clutch was introduced.

I've never heard of someone having had a problem running 10/40 but I'll stick to the recommended 15/50 as there is no point in not doing so.
I have always used fully synth as that is what the manuals appeared to suggest but when you look in detail at the actual oils they recommend, you will find they are actually semi synthetic. I'm about to do an oil change and this time have semi synth 15/50 ready to go in

Sorry Nooj - major derail - general idea is a good one and price seems good too (just I could never bring myself to fit the Falco with plugs from "the enemy")

I've been using BelRay 10/40 semi for years now and have not had a problem. My supplier does either Castol (which I may not be using - see facebook) or Fuchs Silkolene. Castrol was the cheaper one and I know it works as Debz always puts it in her Fazer, that last time the Yam shop had a look in the engine they couldn't believe how new it still looked even after 100,000 miles.

I'll see what price the other stuff comes in at.

So far all 15/50 oils available in 4l bottles are coming in as fully synth. Will keep looking. Though from all their descriptions 15/50 is for higher ambient temps, so over here 10/40 would be a better choice would it not? It'd certainly open up the choices available.

Looked at that one, but in the description I have it didn't say it was semi, only 'ester based' so guessed it was fully. So yes, I can get that one then: -)

I also use Opie Oils for Motul 5100 15w50, normally when one of their (fairly regular) sales are on. I use the same stuff for the VFR, although the recommended oil for that is a 10w40. But as it has to cope with high temps in the south of France, I think that's justifiable. If you can meet their prices I'd be delighted to give you the business, Nooj.

I guess to get decent prices from your supplier you'd need to order one make and type of oil in quantity, and people tend to 'play favourites' with oil.

Motul 5100 for me too

Don't know what Opie's oils prices are like, if it's something they specialise in I'd imagine they'd buy gallons of it at a time, not something I can do
