I am taking fazer in for some photos for a warrenty claim, its only done 1900 miles and paint is peeling off the aluminium frame from under the seat. I was always sceptical of italian bikes but i now realise how bloody good my falco is. I have ridden the falco in the wet not by choice but no rust at all what a marvelous piece of engineering

As I keep telling people, mine is the most relaible bike I've ever had over many years, and I have now ridden it through 7 winters. Not every day, but I do ride a lot in winter, as I love the empty roads. It has held up brilliantly.
Bit of a surprise really, as out of he last 5 bikes I've had 3 have been Hondas, a flagship model CBR1000F, (for 7 1/2 years, much of this time alongside the Falco), CB750 F2N Retro and a VFR750, plus the ZX9R, I've had for 20 months.
The Hondas were all good, but the Falco has been brilliant. The other surprise has been the 9R, which is more of a winter bike, so far no problems at all and no rust, at 9 years old and 20 odd thousand miles.

There's a bit of rust and flaky paint on Debz' Fazer, but it has done 100,100 miles now.

Respect to debz, I still haven't taken a bike through the 100,000 mile mark.

Got to just under 90,000 once and 80,000 another. Falco is getting close to 100,000 but that 's KM.

100.000 miles is briliant, i never realised they would do that sort of milage. What does she do for a job is she a courier down in london . Is this on the origional engine. Also the corrosion is the number plate mounting bracket and not the main frame so i am going to remove ,clean, and paint it myself. Rather than mess about loading fazer on to the trailer to take it has fazer is sorn.

Debz works in IT, commuting from Newbury to Central London four days a week, about 140 miles a day.

Of course it's on the original engine, why wouldn't it be?? How many miles were you expecting to get out of your Fazer?

They only stop working if you don't look after them. This one's been serviced on schedule 90% of time, cleaned regularly to spot any possible developing issues, things wearing out have been replaced before they break and take something more expensive out with them etc.

A few things have gone wrong with it, but most of that is stuff we've been buggering about with beforehand.

Because the fazer is such high reving engine i was not sure, i must admit i am impressed with the milage has to be honest i was not expecting those sort of miles

Don't see any reason why you shouldn't get 100,000 out of the Falco. Modern engines are built to take proper use and abuse (within reason), as long as the fluids and filters are changed on time you should have no problems using all of their abilities. The Fazer only revs 4000rpm higher than the Falco BTW.

Not sure how that average would be calculated - you hear of very few failing.
I doubt that a huge number have failed because they have worn out.

As Nooj says, poor maintenance is probably the biggest killer of bikes.

I've never heard of such high miles on abike; very impressive. There does seem to be a perception amongst motorcycle buyers and dealers that anything with over 20k on it is heading for trouble. My K1200 has 28k and I'd like to pile e lot more on. This thread has given me confidence. OK. who's going to burst my bubble and tell me that the BMW won't be good for a few more miles?

Bikes are all about how you look after them and how you ride them, (as are cars I suppose).
You often hear about people with VFR 750s, Pans and Blackbirds doing silly miles, but others do as well, including Gixxers and Fireblades and BMWs whatever.
I reckon that your average bike engine has to be built better than your average car as it has to rev much higher. Then again if you are always revving the nuts off it it probably won't do 100K miles plus.
Me I'm just happy thay my 2001 Falco has done around 32K with hardly any problems at all, with all recent servicing done by me.
