This time a pillion peg broke as I was hitting it with a big hammer. I'm sure they make them out of cream cheese and brake dust.

Ooh. The big hammer method of mechanicking. My own personal favourite.

I also had the biggest ring spanner and screwdriver I could find. So I was at least prepared to try finesse.

Daft question but were you just randomly hitting it or was there a sense of purpose to it? ;)

It is too, we're highly skilled at hammering. Although the gas man was slightly taken aback by the ally headed mallet by the side of my bed.

The people in Netherton though haven't got a clue. According to one of our works procedures big bolts can be undone using a large pair of stiltons.

Just wondering what the gas man was doing in the bedroom, or was he actually in the bed when he noticed the ally mallet.

Up in Yorkshire we also love our hammers, but they do tend to be more of a last/second resort.
Does the pillion peg work better now it's been "moved"?
I would try penetrating oil before the hammer next time, then give it hell!

The peg works better in an up and down way, worse in a split right through the mounting hole sort of way. Ebay has supplied a replacement. Oiling has had no effect on it before - either the pin or ball/detent was bent or broke. It got an advisory on the last mot.

But a mate at work needed a lift to get his bike back. We're good with hammers.
