Prices have been announced by Southern Electric (SSW) and will become effective 14th of next month.
Ive been meaning to look into swapping over anyway but just thought i would point out something i noted that others may not.
Im with EON for gas, now speaking to them, they wont bring the leccy on without forcing me to have a dual fuel account. Now having listened to martin from the money website, all eggs in one basket under a dual fuel account ISNT always the best option. Laziest, yes, but cheapest.. not always.
With E-ON, its not the cheapest option. Cheaper, granted, than SSW, but its cheaper still to shop around on the single fuel tariffs.
just thought i would mention it..

Also, Where a supplier puts prices up, because that results in a contract change that's detrimental, rules from regulator Ofgem mean many consumers don't need to pay that penalty as long as they inform their power firm they wish to switch before the increase

Oh why oh why oh why can't we just go back to the Gas Board and the Electricity Board with a nice simple pricing structure.
We are now supporting armies of people trying to flog exactly the same stuff to us down the same wires and pipes, ringing us up asking us to swap, knocking the door, making us run the gauntlet as we enter and leave supermarkets, posting stuff too us - all claiming they are the cheapest - all with confusing tarrifs, none with a shred of loyalty so if I swap today I get shafted tomorrow .....
What a load of unnecessary crap, inconvenience and expense.
It's bonkers

I agree about the door knockers, etc. I usually just answer, tell them im tied to a contract and have a lovely day. gave up being grumpy with them nowadays.. although charity callers.. they really really piss me off.

because then there would be massive unemployment as we don't make anything of note anymore

My door knockers just admit they can't compete with the people I mentioned and that is just on leccy. There is no gas within miles of us.

Mike and I agreed to stick with the one we have - if you change at all, you have to keep on changing as what's best value now may not be next week - so what's the point?

Depends, Im now on a low tariff which is locked til 2013. so for the next year at least im going to have lower cost electricity than i was or wouldve done by staying with my current supplier. I took the same view as you Bobbi however this price change ive decided to move. 11% rise is quite substantial and possibly not worth ignoring with the availability of cheaper price locked tariffs elsewhere. agreed the prices could fall however youve got more chance of Motorhead winning the eurovision song contest next year with a Justin Bieber cover.

Indeed - we can all choose to move or to stay and not bother about this week's best price but we are all paying somewhat more than we need to be to support this parasitic industry of phoney competition.
Strip it all away, keep a regulator/consumers' champion to ensure that the monopolistic provider is not abusing the monopoly and leave us all to get on with the many other things in life.
Yep - it would bring some unemployment but what's the point of giving people pointless jobs that are of no real benefit.
I'm sure that as a society we could find far better use for these people's skills.

Id say that about the Houses of Parliament too

Yeah, i thought that. they have a 66 quid annual fee/standing charge but the fuel costs seem cheap. Ive compared to my existing lot and theyre a lot under the costs per unit I pay at the moment with Southern Electric and beat the quote i got from E-ON too. I think on the totally green tariff you pay a bit more for the priveledge, but to be honest i dont hug that many trees and ive planted a few in the garden that satisfies my non-green guilt..
Ive always been wary of the smaller newbie on the block but...

If you get anyone from Southern Electric (SSE) knock on your door, just ask them for your name and tell then that the Chief Executive (Ian Marchant) based at the head office in Perth is a personal friend of yours and you will be having a chat to him about their conduct.
Tends to work for me, but then I do know Ian anyway as I used to be his head of driver safety, but they wwon't know that
