My turn to rant !!!
Been away on the bike with the missus on Friday night. Got back yesterday and noticed my tax disc was missing. Now it's not normally something I would notice so I'm not exactly sure when it went. It was a nice hotel out in the sticks so I don't think it will have been taken overnight. The only place I've left the bike for any length of time was a couple of hours at Barton Bike Night last month. Maybe some of the local scroats have taken it.
It was one those lockable carbon fibre jobs, the bastards have just snapped it off. Can they still get a refund???? I know you have to fill a form in for a refund but I hope there are some proper checks before DVLA refund.
Anyway, need to print off a form for a replacement.........Buggers

Not good - sorry to hear this Dave.
That's the trouble with bike tax discs - there is so little you can do to protect them
... and that's the trouble with the scrotes that nick them - they actually exist.

You know what Dave, I've not fitted a tax disc to any of my bikes for about 9-10yrs now. I keep them in their holders under the seat. I got this advice from a copper
There is nothing that these scrotes won't nick and just because there at a bike meet makes no diference. Some of the biggest tea leaves I've known have been bikers (it was a long time ago mind)
Get a replacement and stick it under the seat mate, the cops know whether your taxed or not via their systems.
The bike looks a lot nicer without those ugly holders stuck on em as well

I've spent 50% of my life riding motorcycles, the rest I've wasted!
The nice WPC and her shiny new sprogs knew my bike was taxed, but they still gave me a ticket and fine for not displaying a valid disk.
Report it as stolen, at least they'll have a record of that then, which will work in your favour if you get stopped or if any scrotes try to cash it in.

IIRC you can get a replacement, but it'll cost you. I got mine nicked in London years ago and it cost me 5 quid to get a new one, considering the original cost 55 quid I was less than impressed paying nearly 10% extra for my tax.
For a while I didn't display the new disc, but the friendly parking attendants were always leaving little sticky notes telling me what a naughty boy I was for not displaying a tax disc (my record was 3 in one day). So I colour photocopied my new one and put that in the holder, I kept the original in my wallet, never had to produce it though.

In answer to your question about refunds, no.. They can't claim anything back as the cheque will be sent to the registered keeper. The name on the application and V5C have to match exactly.
These thieving little scrotes boil my piss. Really don't understand why they have to mess with something that isn't theirs. I'd live to bring back proper punishments to this country, then we'd start to see some results in lowering the crime stat's!
I keep my disk stuck to the seat hump box lid thingy. One of these days i'll get round to cannibalising an old holder and mount it properly.

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handle bars to the saddle.
I went for one of those tax disc holders that requires 6 allen bolts to be undone - holding the nylock nuts at the other end with the right sized spanner. At least the scrotes would have to work a bit for it ... and probably go to find an easier one to nick ..... unless they happen to notice that the holder itself is just attached to the bike by a single bolt .....
I'm just hoping they are not that bright .........

They were in Bournemouth - nicked the £16 tax disc off my baby bike!D-Rider wrote:I went for one of those tax disc holders that requires 6 allen bolts to be undone - holding the nylock nuts at the other end with the right sized spanner. That's why all this hiding it under the seat advice is a very risky strategy.

It is, but at least it's on the bike. Have had a few ideas on properly secure tax disk holders. Easy enough to change the disk when needed, but really difficult to get at without the right kit. Likewise the securing bracket would be secure also. For now, it's an under the seat job. At least with the 6T I have the "it must've fallen off" excuse.. Who wouldn't believe that!..lol..D-Rider wrote:That's why all this hiding it under the seat advice is a very risky strategy.
