On the other side of the nature coin we've had regular visits this week from hummingbird hawk moths on the summer jasmine.
They're just as spectacular as their namesake in the full sun.
Only having seen dead ones and the caterpillars before it hadn't occured to me that they are diurnal.

At our old house we had a long wooden fence between our house and next door with honeysuckle growing all along it.
We used to get Hummingbird hawk moths quite regularly, amazing to watch.
Trouble was the cat from next door used to sit and watch them very carefully, then jump about 5 feet in the air, catch them and then eat them.
Cooking fats.
