My hard drives hate me.

2 days before 3 major deadlines, and another hard drive has failed. This time it's my 1tb network drive. This joins the collection of my 64gb SSD drive which failed 2 weeks ago, and my usb drive, which failed a month ago. (+ one which i left in a computer lab at uni and some pikey nicked).
All i need now is my desktop to die, my laptop to die, and my dropbox to delete itself, and then i will have no coursework to hand in.
Fortunately i haven't lost any data yet - but at my current rate, im not holding my breath.

Let me guess - all the dead drives were about a month out of their warranty period, right?

Surprisingly, no.
The SSD was almost brand new, had only been in the pc for about 2 weeks, so that got sent back for a new one. The network drive was quite old - i bought it on 9/1/2009, however it has a 3 year warranty, hence it is getting replaced too.
The memory sticks were only cheap 4gb sandisks, not too bothered about them.
Everything just wants to fail on me before my hand in deadlines i think!

Just upgraded the ram in mine, added another 1GB stick, it's actually quite usable now, whereas before it was starting to struggle with things.
Quite annoyed too, a while back I added a second HDD and swapped the existing to become a second drive as it was seemingly on its way out. Bloody thing hasnt missed a beat since it became the second drive.. bloody thing.
Added a 1TB external Samsung Story Station 3.0 as well and have transferred most of the music and videos to that, again that's helped the main pooter as it's running a lot happier than it has for years
I think the secret is to change things now and again.. keep it on it's toes and visit Dabs.com now and again to remind it there's always the option of buying a new pooter..

Actually I was looking at some secondhand Mac things in Cash Convertors in Mill Road, Cambridge the other day.
I may dabble in the occult at some stage, although I'd prefer to use a PC running Linux over a Mac

I used Mandrake (now Mandriva) for a while, but once Ubuntu came on the scene that was it as far as I was concerned. The LTS (Long Term Support) releases are particularly good.

Cant remember what it was they had, or the prices to be honest. The missus was after a slaptop so walked in checked what they had, turned her nose up and walked out. I only had about 2 minutes to have a quick shooftie.
Didnt see any macbooks though

Yep - one of my PCs is an Ubuntu Linux machine. Linux getting better all the time - just a PITA if you want to run specific windoze apps (though windoze can be emulated)
