Neat.

Oh yes - that was one of the reasons I never wanted a faired bike, with mine the headlight pointed where the wheel pointed always! I never could imagine how you could ride with a headlight in a fixed fairing!

...... another of the technologies they are looking at in the SafeRider project .... that so many people seemed to be poo-pooing last time it was mentioned ......

err yes it has - the headlight on the forks/bars would make very little difference in most situations as when you're riding you don't turn the bars very far at all. The thing that really looses you visibility at night is the range of the beam as you lean over and the beam cut off moves much closer to the bike (as demonstrated in the video). This technology appears to have solved that. Bet it's not cheap though.

Being able to see where you are going when you bank over for a bend, what a silly idea, take all the fun out of biking!
Sorry but we have to move on, looks like a great idea to me.
Reminds me of my old rallying days back in the 70s with 4 extra driving lights on the front of the old Escort Twin Cam, two super Oscars on top facing straight down the road/track for extra long distance, and two lower ones in a cross eyed pattern to see round corners on forest stages, (and on the road sections if no plod around!), doing it this way actually helped you see further around the corner on a night forest stage than in the more obvious setting with the outside lights set to face to the side, which itself was a big improvement over normal headlights.
Looked a bit silly but worked really well.
All we have done with bike headlights is go backwards, with most new bikes using one main headlight and a separate dip. Why is it that that hardly any modern bikes have twin headlights which always gives a bit of extra spread on a bend, (although still nothing like as good as a car for the obvious reason)
The Falco has a decent dip for a single unit, so much better than something like a steel frame CBR6. but might it have been better with two dip units?
The two best bikes I have had, headlight wise, were my old CBR Thou and current ZX9R both with twin uprated H4 units.
Both are as good as a car, (until you go round a bend) !

Move a small mirror instead of the whole light, just like stage lasers. Good idea applying that idea to a bike

Big torch taped to your helmet (no, the other one) would do the same.

I suppose that does raise the possibility of a light built into a helmet with a plug into the bike.

We used something like that in the Sahara on the dirt bikes to bloody good effect, simple head torches plugged into the bikes and strapped to the helmet, unfortunately they were wired to the alternator so they went off when you slowed down

Another thought would be to have some sort of robotic device on the bike that allowed the light to follow the movement of the riders head. think of the aliens shoulder weapon in Predator. Not too far fetched really since that technology is already in use.

Why stop there? The apache has a large machine gun which points where the pilot's eye is looking. Not that I'm suggesting machine guns on motorcycles obviously , but the same technology could be applied to bikes.

Would be even better if when you got target fixation on the tree, you had the capacity and firepowerlike the Apache pilot, (lets add a few missiles rather than just a simple heavy machine gun), to blow it away before you hit it!
