Hopefully the worst news will be that they are now 12" closer to Oz.

My family are safe but well shaken by this, They're well and truely sick of it all by now. 23 aftershocks over 4 on the richter scale in the 18 hrs after initial 6.3. Really is devistating seeing hometown landmarks like the cathedral in ruins. Only last week booked and paid for our tickets to fly out for next christmas after persuading the missus it was calming down and would be fine.
Heart goes out to the families of those who didn't make it.

I have friends on holiday there at present , they were nowhere near Christchurch but said that it's hard to carry on enjoying their holiday thinking of what's happened to so many.
