He's a seriously cool dude to have done 700,000 miles on the thing!!! Interesting to see the changes to the bike: Brake upgrade, mudguard (to fit the disks I guess), indicators fitted and the fairing. Wonder what else has been done?

Wonder if I could keep the Falco going for that long?

If I had something like that I don't think I could part with it - I'd keep it just to look at and remind of the good times.

I too love Vincents, I used to have a Panther M100, now that had some torque I can tell you. I've seen them with a double chair (like mine) and towing a loaded trailer.

Never did forget the Panther "Advert" in the 60s, well not really an advert in those days a sort of promotional exercise.
They had a short cine film of a Panther Combo pulling an old Thames barge, very slowly.
Then again it was that sort of bike, at the time I drooled after a Goldie, 650 Bonneville, Dommie SS or similar. All the old blokes on the street dreamed about having a Panther to pull their big Double adult Watsonian sidecars, complete with wife, 3 kids and enough luggage for a week at Skeggy.

The Panther really was a classic.
Used by the forces in the war and in production right through as Howard said till the 60s.
40 degree single cylinder with torque such that it was said to fire at every lampost.

A friend of mine has an old Panther.. Have had the pleasure of riding it a few times.. Really nice lazy long stoke motor.. And yes, it does fire at every lamp post.. lol..

The Vincent is one of the bikes i've always faniced a go on. Have ridden a fair few old donks over the years (working for a classic bike shop for a couple of years helped) but never a Vincent.. Have worked on one though (Comet).. Lovely machines.. Very well made.. Can see why they command such a high price..

One of my earliest motorcycle-related memories is of my Dad's Panther outfit. I also remembering him px-ing it for a Norton ES2 outfit (hope I've got the name right), and that fateful day when he said goodbye to 3 wheels motorcycle style and went to 3 wheels car (sort of) style - a fugging Bond Minicar.

I hated it. I did laugh when the bonnet flew off going over Vauxhall Bridge, though...

My dAd always rated his fellinmore panther.... I have no idea what it was exactly but

I always loved the Vincent V-twins and in my student days, posters of them and Brough Superiors took pride of place on my walls.
I have always hankered after one but at the crazy prices they go for, it's just a dream.

Nevertheless I have a 998cc V-twin of a narrow-ish angle (60 degrees rather than the Vincent's 50 degrees) and like to imagine that similarity gives them a bit of something to share. Maybe if they were making them now they would not be so different ....

Have you seen that the company that owned the rights to the Vincent name made prototype of a modern Vincent Black Shadow. It's a V-twin .... but a 90 degree lump (that's just wrong) from a Honda RC51

The company owner was killed on a ride-out so it is very unlikely to be made ..... which, looking at it, is a good thing.


As for Panthers, I used to see one parked up quite often in Reading - before I moved north. Never saw the owner though. That one was a bit rough.
More recently I've seen one with a chair attached round and about in Coventry.

That is just crying out for a Rotax 60 degree lump to be slotted in. Would reduce the excessive wheelbase, as well.

The styling is sort of there, but needs attention, I grant you. Another stillborn project...
