I live in a bungalow at the bottom of a steep cul-de-sac just off the A57 in South Yorkshire, and couldn't get out this morning until me, my wife, daughter and three other neighbours had cleared between 4 and 6 inches of snow off the road up to the brow of the hill.
Stupidly I decided to go into work in Rotherham for the afternoon. Left work at 16:30 for the 11 mile trip home, which took me nearly three hours. It wasn't too bad on the M1 until I got to Junction 31 and left the motorway for the A57 towards Worksop.
The last two miles back to South Anston took more than 1 1/2 hours.
When we started on the A57 it was only about 1” to 2” deep but ice underneath so no grip at all. We had a blizzard for most of the two miles and it was about 5” deep when we eventually got near to our village.
Somehow managed to get the wife’s Colt home when Minis and other cars were stuck everywhere.
Sick as a parrot when we finally got back as the road we had cleared was 6” deep again.
Evidently we were the lucky ones as hundreds of cars have been stuck for more than 4 hours between J30 and J31, many still there after midnight.
Just had another look and it must be 10 or 12 inches deep again in the areas where we cleared it before.
Looks like another day to take a holiday tomorrow.
Still snowing like hell and forecast is for minus 4 and snow through the night and tomorrow.
Good job we’ve got global warming!

I think we have had 1.5 inches of snow. Thats it, That was a day ago too so now it's just slush with a bit of ice.

UPDATE.
In our area, it is now between 1ft and 2ft deep with drifts of 3ft or more around the house and strangely the doors. The spades and stuff are all in the bloody garage, which seems to have a drift upto the doors, haven;t even tried to clear anything today yet.

You're only bloody jealous Dale cos you never see the stuff anymore.
Anyway I'd rather have the snow than forest fires.
Sadly we all get to suffer in some way.
Think it's called Global Warming.

Not much in Coventry. About 3/8" over night the other night.. It's coming down slowly at the moment, but we're getting away relevantly unscathed.

Can't quite see how socks work.
I remember that snow used to stick to my socks when I was a kid, but can't see how they work better than deep treaded tyres, even if the tread does get filled with ice.
I'll put some socks on over my boots and see if I can get to the garage in a bit, then again I might just look at it through the window!

Just have to be grateful we live in a digital world I suppose so we still have entertainment if we can't get out.
My new Sky Plus box has not had a signal since yesterday afternoon so can't watch telly or record the stuff we're missing.
Glad I still heve the old aerial service for now!
My work's Vodafone mobile coverage has never been good at home, but had no signal since yesterday teatime.
Internet works occasionally very slowly, but then drops out after about 5 mins max, so these posts have all taken me numerous goes.

A guy at work bought some last year and they're pretty amazing. Bit fiddly to put on but they work really well.

I know this is going to turn into my snow's deeper than yours but.................it' s been snowing in east yorks since last Thursday. I've been working from home all week cos I couldn't get out of the village, over the hill and down onto the M62. Measured it the middle of the lawn this morning and it was 13 inches !!!!
It's drifted now in the wind and it's upto the door handle of my neighbour's car.

Coventry update..

Another 3/8"ish since my last post..lol..

Just got back from a walk (??expedition??) down to the A57 at South Anston and I've never seen anything like it, 22 hours on there are hundreds of cars and lorries still stuck, with no hope of getting them out for days. There are 4 Edale Mountain Rescue Landrovers plus another from Woodhead Mountain Rescue.
The traffic can't get through to Worksop even if they could get moving because evidently the brand new underpass under the A57 at Lindrick Golf Club has collapsed and a lorry is stuch in the hole along with a gritting truck that tried to rescue it.
The A57 between the M1 J.31 and Anston village is rammed solid with cars and three abreast lorries all heading towards Worksop and stuck solid.
There are police vehicles, plus RAC and AA rescue trucks all stuck in amongst them plus one lonely grit truck with a plough on the front that can only move about 200 metres or so before it gets to part of the road blocked with three abreast lorries. Can't think how they will ever get this lot out as nothing can get through to them.
All the locals in the village are taking blankets and air beds, mattresses and stuff to the old church hall along with food and drinks. The village butcher is staying open 24hrs trying to feed them with sausage and roast pork sarnies.

Surprised we havent been stood to. We usually are this time of year ready for snow clearance. Been mightily quiet and relaxed on Camp to be honest.
I would imagine 21 at Ripon will get spammed for some route clearance in support of the local authorities though.

Nothiung here. We had about half an inch the other day bit it didn't lay on the ground, only non the tops of cars etc. Hope we don't get any tonight cos I'm on early turn tomorrow.
