Please could you remind me of the name of the arthritis treatment you recommended at the Norfolk meet? Totally forgotten it - I blame your tequila & jaffa cakes.

Posted this instead of PMing in case others find the info useful

Sorry for the delay I have been taking Mum to Gibralta for a few days.

The stuff is MSM - Originally reccomended to me by a vet who used it for horses (not a lot of placebo there) ... as I said before it seems to help for me but give it a go....Methylsulfonylmethane

So do you get it from a chemist or the local Vets!???? :smt017

I might try it as I have had arthritis for nearly 30 years, and my GP won't prescribe anything at all.

Hi Howard, I use these people for vitamins and supplements. Here's their MSM page:

Actually when I first tried it you could only get it from the local equine supplies place... which gave the question of dosage... It was decided that I was a "Thewell pony" and so we based the dose on that :smt101

As others have posted you can now get it from health food shops.

I am not claiming it to be a miracle cure but it certainly seems to help me... its one of those where you take it for a while and then you let it slip... then one day you think why am I feeling so crunchie and sore all of a sudden and realise that you have stopped taking the MSM, a quick double dose week and then back on course and it all smoothes out again. As I said Im not evangelising it but it certainly seems to help for me.

It says it's 'the perfect partner to glucosamine' - which I take. Do you take both Shebee?

I did try glucosamine at one stage and it did nothing for me - ditto with green lipped mussel extract, but I have never had the 2 together - might give it a go this winter as its always worse in the cold/damp weather.

I'll have to give it a try, been using different things for many years, starting with high strength Cod Oil, (more recently Omega 3 oil), then added Bio Selenium, and latterly Glucosamin Sulphate.

I've ordered Glucosamine with Chondroitin, and MSM. If it does any good, I'll let you know.

I've a slight worry about the effect of a sulphur compond on my bowels, as they have more than a slight tendency to vulcanicity

I seem to recall Hydrogen disulphide was affectionately known as 'rotting eggs' in my school days... :smt003
