I stand NO chance, fed up with the do gooders interferring because they havnt got a real job.

Just think of the cost implications, it would kill the biking scene stone dead.

Interferring obnoxious little eurocrats ........they got screwed over by Napoleon, shafted by the Germans twice , bailed out by the UK (and allies) 3 times and yet make the UK pay at every twist.

I think the yanks nuked the wrong outfit back in '45'

To be honest, having lived and driven/ridden in Germany for 5 years, i dont see too much drama apart from the costs.

Germany is strict..very strict, but aftermarket kit is readily available, TuV standards have to be met by suppliers of the equipment, so you can have aftermarket kit, you just have to have the relevant TuV cert, which comes with the kit..

Just look at Hein Gericke...

Have a look at the scale of the german car tuning scene.. then park up the outrage bus and stick the keys back in the key press..

I do agree they can f*ck off..this is my island..ours.. not europe's.

I dont think so really. it'd cost a bloody fortune to set up the whole system in the first place so with the current climate i cant see it getting past second base.

Two things to remember in this life:

1. The MOD always sells to the lowest bidder
2. MAG always work on worst case scenario
The toughest current standards are in Germany, where modifying is made complicated and expensive by requirements for individual motorcycle parts to be tested and approved.

MAG president Ian Mutch said: “The worst scenario is that we wouldn’t be able to fit anything that’s not an official accessory made by the manufacturer of the bike.
“Road-side spot-checks specifically for motorcycles are also under consideration.”

look at hein gericke..the biggest aftermarket ...and a german..shop in the world

then look at what Ian Mutch says above..

Worst case scenario is the german system.. so what gives with the crap about manufacturer accessories only? You can fit what you want from the hein gericke range in germany!! and last time i looked they werent aprilia or kwack or even a manufacturer.. theyre aftermarket!

Scaremongering....

One of the guys on AF1 lives in Germany (and has a place in France too).
He often says how difficult things can be for you if you deviate from standard spec.

I hope this doesn't go anywhere as some of us have a fair few mods on our bikes ... maybe the Mille parts will be OK / already homologated and maybe other bits and pieces too .... but what about our home-made items and things like Nooj's LED lights and Greg's smoked lenses and modified sidestands etc.?

Maybe it'll only affect new bikes too - though there goes future fun ...

Yes let's hope it doesn't proceed - Tim's point about cost is a very good one against this progressing.

since when has cost upset the numpties in brussels ?

don't forget that teflon tony gave away our veto on brussels related stuff.... and if they did bring it in, no doubt our stupid government would go along with it.... must be shit loads of quangos involved after all

I took the time to fill it in - if nothing else it voiced my discontent

How did you manage to fill it in - I had a look and it is exclusively for those that have experience of the system - there are mandatory questions that require answers based on experience - as I have none on this I concluded that it's not intended for me.

I couldn't see much change being implemented on the road, but the insurance companies would have a hand washing spree.

fpr PTI read MOT - therefore we do have experience of it

i thought it was quite easy/logical to fill in after that.....

This was mooted a few years ago and MAG via FEMA did a lot of lobbying to get it dropped. I hope you are all members.

Don't assume it won't happen cos it would cost £millions to set up.
Can anybody remember back as far as the new bike test centres!

The questionnaire appears to refer to proposals on testing regimes for all vehicles, not just bikes (as I read it). Considering the mobile death-traps too often seen on our roads (most of them seem to LGVs), I think any scheme which would get rid of them is to be applauded.

Going off at a slight tangent, how about subjecting passengers & drivers to some sort of compliance testing, with particular regard to their effect on suspension, handling & braking. This morning at our local garage I saw an old Corsa, apparently with knackered suspension - almost bottomed out. When its occupants alighted, the explanation was horrendously obvious: said occupants comprised one short but definitely and significantly obese older female, and a younger example of same sex (I think), who was the biggest thing I've ever seen capable of locomotion on two legs (if barely). As she/it moved, ripples corruscated through the blubber, a sort of subcutaneous Mexican Wave. I think I've seen the result of an experimental mating of a hippopotamus and Jabba the Hutt. There was also a pretty bulky older chap in the front passenger seat. I doubt a Corsa was intended to bear such a burden.
