Bit of a public service broadcast.

ChCh & Timaru have just been hit by a massive 7.4 earthquake, power is out in most of Christchurch and there are reports of widespread damage.
There are ongoing aftershocks and many people have fled the area's of Brighton & Sumner fearing a Tsunami.

I have spoken to mum briefly but I think they lost their power during one of the aftershock.

Just spoken to my dad & brother.....they were both in their beds which were thrown across the room, nothing left on any shelves and some big cracks in the roof.

Seems like a bad one :smt009

They're still getting shocks over there although you couldn't tell by the UK media.
Check out the link below to see the scale of the Quake and ongoing aftershocks. Quite scary really. Zoom in on South Island for better view.

Wooooah .... that's a lot of quakes and they're of a significant magnitude.

If that's the reporting we're getting from somewhere like NZ, the number of unreported significant events (natural/political/whatever) in other less well known parts of the world (ie with fewer "interests") must be staggering.

Still, it wouldn't be right for these things to get in the way of the latest celebraty gossip now would it.

Don't worry, one of these days it will get the recognition it deserves when Slime-man Cowbell introduces Celebraty Quake Factor ro the world.

Oh BTW my mrs folks live on North Island and I don't believe they've been affected.
