Just found out that you can only get a one month supply of prescription medicines. So they did not increase the prescription price but reduced the amount you can get. I used to get two months supply at the same cost as one months supply...

Apply for Working Tax Credit.. Even if you don't get anything back, they still send you a free pass..lol..

Yes they have been doing this for many years, yes you can sometimes get your GP to change things. One of my prescriptions was cut to around a third of what it used to be years ago and I did get it back to almost the original volume. My GP explained that it was not him but what he called Government Inspections/Audits that checked every one and dropped it to around one months supply. He said next time they came in that they would probably knock it down again, but if I let him know he would try to up it again, (has done).
The other change on my side was when I got to the big six zero, and thought, that's great I don't have to pay any more. Suddenly a medicine I have taken for 25 years is much too dangerous to be prescribed.
Went to the chemist to get my normal prescription for Gaviscon, (used to get two 600ml bottles), and they'd prescribed a tiny bottle of something I'd tried years ago and was no use at all.
I explained how I had tried it before and really needed Gavison, and was told it was not available any more as it was now dangerous. I explained I had been taking it fro 25 years and was still alive (just) so wasn't that bad. The the lady suggested it was probably the salt content that was too high to be safe. I said I needed it so she walked me through the shop to a counter full of the stuff and offered to sell me some, which I bought.
I then went back to the counter with her and asked how she could sell me something that was dangerous.
Seems it is only dangerous when on prescription, especially a free one.
Never did understand how the amount you pay could make a medicine more dangerous.
All another stealth tax on prescription charges like the rest.
Still have to use it and the GP agrees I need it, just have to buy it myself, like many other things.

Never mind Howard - won't be long and they'll ban oxygen too - given that's very dangerous for the human body and plays a significant role in ageing and our general decline - though until they do I'll take the risk of consuming oxygen over not consuming it ....

.... and that's the point isn't it - balancing benefits and risks. Trouble is, all too often they only look at one side of the equation.

This thread is incomplete without a mention of rip-off drug companies.

..... are we confusing the costs of the business (including research) with profit?


..... and as someone with responsibility for (non-medical) research, I'm all for it continuing and being adequately funded (I'm dreaming again ....)
