When did the wearing of crash helmets become compulsory? Whenever it was this guy must have been sleeping since then.
5.35pm today- rush hour on the M62 near Leeds and this guy cruises past in the 50mph road works, boots leathers jacket and gloves and no helmet!
Couldn't believe my eyes, don't know how far he got before being pulled.

1973.
I remember it well. I gave up biking.
It was the same time MAG was formed by riders protesting against the unjust introduction of compulsory helmet legislation.

Not sure if the law's changed yet.. But not wearing a helmet wasn't an endorseable offence and carried a silly fine of about £20. Probably all changed now. I've ridden a few times with no helmet, but in funeral processions..

Saw a guy riding wearing a turban this weekend.
Despite the exemption I've seen very few turban-wearing riders over the past 37 years since the law was introduced

Only rode without a helmet once, left it on the wall of a mates house and only realized because I could hear all these really noisy rattles from the bike
Oops!
Don't think plod would have seen the funny side.

Back when Kwackers was about minus 8, I used to blast down the seafront at places like Skeggy, wearing a T shirt, sneakers, a pair of shorts and some dark sunglasses with the rest of my mates.
It seemed really cool to ride like this in summer and I was well pissed off when the law was changed in 73, but views change, can't even remember the last time I went out just in jeans and jacket now.
Now I always tend use all the protection I can.
Partially because I grew up, but mainly cos it makes sense.

Yep, done that - in my case, t-shirt, cut-off denim shorts, cowboy boots, & shades - thought I was really cool.
Actually I was, with all the chrome on the CB750
And after hitting a Triumph Dolomite sideways on, & the car coming off worse, I was invincible as well; until a girlfriend dumped me, & I had several pints of Bass, followed by a race with what turned out to be a police car
