Probably going to happen tomorrow (if I can get in though the snow) half the work force and a bunch of admin types have been given the push.

Any jobs going?

Sorry to hear that Nooj.

.... and no jobs going at our place - we've had a recruitment ban for the past year or so right across all our European offices .... better than our European Manufacturing plants though - they've shed about 5,000.

perhaps to help keep the wolf from the door, and keep a few quid coming in, could you make some specific things for the falcos?

I know, because I have one, you have made led rear tail light clusters - so make some to order?

(I appreciate they are fiddly to make but - better to do something than nothing and at least you could make a few quid to pay a few bills etc)

as I said, just a thought

The company is getting rid of half the work force (only 20 of us anyway). I'm on 'gardening leave' until next Wednesday when I'm expected to go in for a meeting with the managers and basically beg for my job.

Have started looking elsewhere already.

The big problem is that Debz also has no job at the moment so it couldn't have come at a worse time.

I've still got the AllYearBiker franchise to fall back on, but I need to do 15 bikes a week EVERY week to get enough money to live on and that's not going to happen for a while, especially not while there's 7 inches of snow on the ground here.

Sorry to hear your news.

Sometimes it's better if you're both unemployed so you are actually entitled to some benefits etc.

Years ago when Mike and I were both workless we said, right, we'll lose the house now - didn't even seem worth getting upset cos there was nothing we could change. But we found ways and are still there! That's supposed to be encouragement for you, hope it works that way!

I don't think Debz will get any benefits as she resigned and I won't because I have a Saturday job. Also we'll have to use our savings up before Gordon Brown's mafia gives us any of our NI contributions back. Hopefully we won't have to sell our other house as that will mean our chums who live in it will be homeless. I'll go into the jobbie centre on Monday and see where we stand re benefits.

Time will tell.

It might get better, but it might take the whole year to get better. But then, what's one year out of 70 or 80 years?
