Conditon of road surface at time of accident: bloody solid ice
Visibility: poor, my face was one the road
who was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident?: Nobody, we bailed.
were there any contributing factors?: We are a couple o fannies

Muppets!
Though it got a bit hairy when I got home from work today.
My drive is on a slope - especially the bit where I park.
My wife parks on a flatter part and was already home.
When I got home, I found that my car wouldn't go very far up the drive , so half on the drive, half on the pavement I stopped, put on the handbrake and was about to get out to get some stuff to clear the drive to park the car properly ... and then felt the car sliding back down the slope towards the lamp post.
Fortunately it stopped!
I got out and found my shovel and a supply of salt and cleared a track for the car. Having tested for grip with my shoes, I drove it up and stopped - putting a couple of bricks behind the rear wheels for added security. I was about to clear a track a bit further up so there would be room to get my son's car on the drive too. By this time he had arrived home and was parked on the road at the bottom of the drive.
The next thing we knew was my unoccupied car, having been stationary for a few minutes, began sliding down the drive towards my son's car - and we couldn't stop it!
Fortunately, within inches of the cars crashing into each other, one of the bricks (that was failing to chock the back wheels) dug into the drain grating at the end of the drive and stopped the car!
Following that, I cleared another track on the drive to park next to my wife's car on a flattish part - where my son usually parks (he's now parked on the road!)
The combination of snow on ice plus gravity plus a heavy car don't mix .... even when you think you've done a good job with a shovel and salt!
Think I'm probably going to have to walk to work tomorrow.
