Hi all,
OK, just watched an police camera action episode. The boys in blue were pulling bikers for fun

Most got fixed penalty notices for small plates and illegal cans
Just been looking on fleebay for some after-market cans. Do they (manufacturers) stamp them with either the European or british kite mark? What happens if you buy some cans with no legal marks on? Boys in blue will give you ticket if they ain't marked

What can we say in our defence?
I know a small company near me who makes cans, but, he doesn't put any mark on... Just a thought...
My warranty is the clear/smoked tail lights around the corner!!

My cans - Staintunes (Australian?) - don't have any stamps, but the bike passed its MOT with them (the tester was 'philosophical' about them); would this have any bearing on the situation if I were to be pulled for them?

Some cops will know your cans are ......'not for road use' and are really not giving a toss
some will not know what a 'can ' is
some will know that cans should have a stamp but are unsure which stamp
and some will both know what you should have and what you do have and will issue a vdrs/fixed penalty ticket on every occasion ..........
you pays your money .........you takes your chance
be careful what you wish for..........having all cops knowing about loud pipes/small plate legislation is DEFINATELY a two edged sword............
Personally I dont issue tickets .....if you rip the pish I see you in court ......if you dont ......have a nice day........life is a finite event ......dont fcuk it up for everyone

Nope - the MOT is "at the time", not current, if you don't have the proper cans on when you get pulled it's down to you.
The fact that the MOT tester (following the letter of the law) perhaps shouldn't have issued a cert is beside the point, you can report him but all that's going to do is get his license to conduct MOT's pulled, won't affect what happens if you get pulled

A word of caution, bear in mind that if you get pulled for noisy & non-marked exhausts, you may get away with slapped wrists and a recitification notice. If you get pulled because the exhausts are too loud, the copper finds a kite mark sticker that clearly wasn't put their by the manufacturer then you're in line for a more serious charge - some form of fraud, or perverting the course of justice perhaps? Dunno, not a legal expert, but I'm guessing this would be viewed in a similar line to grinding off the "Not for road use" stamp that appears on certain race exhausts

Doubtless KD can put me right - but I thought that unless they are much too loud, most cans are ok if they are not stamped "Not for Road Use". My info may be well behind the times tho.

Hi all,
OK, guess putting a sticker on an can can be perceived as making a false declaration or deceipt if proven, that it was your intention to make something that is legal or meets a required standard. But, even cans that are meant for race use, do have to meet cetain stringent tests before they go on a track now, non professional of course.
But, the can is only deemed to meet a certain level of noise at certain revs, and most manufacturers don't make them totally crazy. Your right hand also controls the level of noise to some degree. I sometimes dip my clutch when I see a traffic car or bike float by me
But, like all things, moderation is the key....

What makes you think I really worry about this BG?
I only crawl into peoples little sordid lives if they pi$$ me off enough.........I tend to 'live and let live ' untill some smart fecker decides not to play nice ..........then I turn into 'super buorocrat' mode and will make it my lifes mission to find all violations of the myriad of eurocratic pointless legislation that exists.
Its what gets me up in the mornings sometimes.........

Somewhere in this august forum is a question I asked, which TC gave the specific answer too re loud exhausts etc
there are all sorts of rules a policeman has to adhere to with regard to them...
basic rule is - don't take the piss!
(says he with the loud renegade cans!)

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Well if I cant find a vehicle examiner.....I can always find my asbo ticket book..........for which I dont eaven have to refer to road traffic legislation and can sieze a bike on the second stop after issuing a warning re excessive noise..............

.... which seems to be a misuse of powers methinks ......... and not what asbos were really intended to tackle.
That said, I see no point in running cans that are not legal or number plates that are not legal (though I really do think that a particularly petty rule) - there is no point in making life harder for ourselves than it needs to be ..... though I am getting rather fed up with the growing legislation that is unnecessary and seems to just be trying to make life difficult.

i would rather that her majesties police force concentrated on doing real crime prevention work, than satisfying a morrally corrupt governments targets and income generation
I would also throw my hat into the fire re misuse of asbos - I disagree wholeheartedly on asbos per se - and any abuse of the system is morally wrong
(apologies if it was intended as just a jest)
