I saw this on BBC 24 this morning, it's very good that a scheme like this is up & running as it will get more bums on saddles.
Not sure about one of the selling points though, "it's not very dangerous anymore, only 500 riders died last year".
I like this from the maintenance section of their website
brakes and brake fluid – make sure you have plenty left on your brake pads and remember, brake fluid runs out and doesn’t re-fill itself. No brake fluid equals no brakes!

From what I've read on other forums, newbie riders need more of the basic stuff!
When I did my training it was the old ACU scheme - 8 weeks of lessons once a week, we did a classroom bit then went out and practised, debriefed and more practice, and the course lasted 8 weeks - with any week repeated if we or the instructors thought we needed to. Included was a fair bit of info about basic maintenance. A lot of the new bikers now have no idea about changing oil or adjusting the chain - one recently posted about a problem which some of us diagnosed as chain needing adjustment so he decided he would have to go back to the dealer to get it done!
