i was sat on the hairpin with my heart in my mouth, what i can't work out is they red flaged the race but the one's that got past and crossed the finish line were given the result.

Stuart Higgs (Race Director) explained on Eurosport that they took a "Snap Shot" at the moment the red flag went out. Those that were down were excluded as they were "no longer in the race".
He claimed that this has been the rule for 20years and is the same in MotoGP and WSB etc.

My reaction was "Bollox". I remember being at Silverstone a few seasons ago on a very cold, wet day, cheering Jim Whitham on in the WSS race. He went down in front of where I was watching - in fact the weather was so bad they were all dropping like flies. The race was red flagged and the result was taken from the last time they crossed the finish line. Whit won although he was in a gravel trap and out of the race when the flag went out.

Then Eurosport asked Whit what was his reaction to the decision (at Mallory) and he verbalised what I'd just remembered !

Very strange decision.

that was my understanding andy, camier was struggling and was that far back from the leaders managed to slow right down crawl through the pile up while the red flag was flying and go on to get a podium.what a gift.
