Company Mondeo went back on Wednesday, today ordered my new X-Type Jag in black, should be here early to mid August

I considered another Mondeo, but to get the same spec as the Jag I would have to go for the Titanium X which was over £6K dearer, and even the mid range Zetec was over £4K more

Having driven the car (Jag) today, very nice and refined, although its underpinnings are the earlier Mondeo anyway, and although I was nearly tempted by the Saab 9 3 Turbo, the car just didn't float my boat quite the same.

Also looked at the new Insignia (not very inspiring to drive), Passat, Honda Accord and Citroen C5, but at the end of the day value folr money the new 09 baby Jag was a hard act to beat.

We ribbed a guy in work so much about his X-type being a Mondeo wannabe that he ended up selling it on

Thing is, although the two share the same floorpan, Jaguar did a lot of work on it and the X-type chassis is a lot more refined than the Mundaneo.
The comparisons between the two are quite unfair.

The 2 Litre Diesel S with winter pack (which includes heated windscreen) and parking sensors.

The standard spec is already very good withg the following fitted as standard.

To get this spec in the Mondeo I would have had to go for the Titanium spec as a minimum.

But it was the drive that convinced me. Very slick gearbox, well balanced nice build quality, the only car that came close was the Saab but the standard kit spec did not match up to the Jag.

I know that it is a Mondeo engine and floorpan, but for me the Jaguar badge differentiates it from the Ford

I became a diesel fan for the first time 3 1/2 years ago when I got a my current car, a high spec Alfa 156 2.4 JTD 20 valve Lusso. Loads of torque and exceptional economy make modern diesels very relaxing cars to drive. Still haven't got around to using the cruise control though in all that time!

I just got an Escort Mk6 Mexico for 350 quid.

I am in no way jealous of T.C. nope, not in the slightest...

well maybe a bit, but mine uses less fuel stuck in a traffic jam and cost me 100 quid to insure.

yes but tim, you have to remember that you do have a tiny willy so do need to drive an escort mexico.....
