Going abroad? Applying for EHIC online? BEWARE!

#1 Post by BikerGran » Tue May 19, 2009 2:31 pm

Just booked to go to France in July and Mike doesn't have an EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) that replaced the old E111 form so I thought I'd apply online. I googled for ehic and the first site that came up was

www.ehic.org - BUT IT'S A CON!

They want to charge you £9.99 for processing and forwarding your application - the EHIC is free and the link to use for applying is

https://www.ehic.org.uk/Internet/startApplication.do

Pretty similar but not the same. If you read all the guff on the first one, it does tell you that it's a service you're paying for - but you don't need it, just use the official one, you can't make a mistake cos it won't let you!

The tragedy of old age is not that one is old, but that one is young.

#5 Post by BikerGran » Wed May 20, 2009 2:18 pm

Please note the link I put in the first post as the correct one was another wrong un - so if you've copied it elsewhere, the correct link is

https://www.ehic.org.uk/Internet/startApplication.do

Have now changed the original one!
The tragedy of old age is not that one is old, but that one is young.
