Redundancy
So I'm another casualty of the recession. Moved to a new job just over a year ago and now they are cutting back on development activities and my role is redundant.
I don't think I'm going to get much redundancy pay and work is going to be hard to find.....
I'll be trying to hold on to the Falco and it's nice bits. (What was that shadow over head , vultures nah not possible?)
Just going to economise and hope for the best. So I'll probably be drinking less and not be doing the Aprillia day etc. Its not all bad my waiste line might return to what it was a few years ago and I'll be seeing more of the familly. Maybe something better will turn up before I get to selling the Falco and the house etc.

I feel for you Keith and hope something comes along soon - went through it myself a few years back but the global economy wasn't in the state it is now.
My mrs got her redundancy/redeployment letter this week too but at least in teaching she has been given a good length of time to find a new job before the redundancy kicks in.
Anyway - best wishes to you and hope the right opportunity turns up.

Damn Kieth,
Sorry to hear that. Fingers crossed.
Look on the bright side like Sidestand, you should have a chance to rack up a good few miles of fun. Also, I've met your lovely wife and daughters, make the most of your time with them too.
I recently went through the same and although my wife was extremely supportive it was hugely stressful for her, probably more so for her as I'm pretty laid back type. So I guess I'm saying try to be tolerant (goes for Mrs HisNibss too).
You struck me as a pretty competent and capable type as did your wife, so I reckon you'll be OK.
Chin up.

Been laid off here also, been contemplating on whether to sell the bike, if nothing comes up in the next couple of weeks, will most likely have to. I have never known it so bad, have always managed to pick something up before when things went tits up but not this time.
Loads of things have been wizzing around in my head. What did i do wrong apart from get older and slow down a bit. Whether to start up on my own, retrain but retrain for what i am 50 in October and probably don't think i have the stomach for starting up a business, put part of me is so angry i feel like taking all his work off him.
I think i had better stop now or this is going to turn into a right rant and rave and my fingers will get sore from hitting the keys

Thanks for the support and I know plenty have and will have, it a lot rougher than me.
Having once had a successful software business and hoping that the position I'm just loosing would see me through to colect my pension, like you Woodbutcher it is hard to envision building my own business again.
Might have to though, so Woodbutcher what kind of work are you looking to take off him?

I know how you feel. I got head hunted just over a year ago by a firm I previously worked for (and from which I was also made redundant) and was encouraged (read hounded) into giving up a job I was secure in for life. I was given certain guarantees and assurances with regards to my long term future and so after much debating and further hounding (plus the substantial pay increase which was also welcome) I decided to go back.
Guess what? 5 weeks ago they told me I was redundant for the second time
I won't repeat my thoughts on here, suffice to say they were rather insulting, and the firm has already lost out on a number of high value referals, but that is their problem not mine
Fortunately, I have been able to do a bit of freelancing, and I did get paid 3 months money + holiday pay, and yesterday I got a phone call from another law firm asking if we could meet up for lunch as they would like to discuss a job which was a pleasant if unexpected call out of the blue, so I will have to wait and see. But certainly not a pleasant experience.
as a by the by, you are only entitled to redundancy after 2 years continous employment although some firms may have a clause in the contract allowing you to a redundancy payment for a lesser period of time.
Anyway, good luck.

I see, hence the Wood Butcher moniker......Despite my lording it up with a tounge in cheek HisNibbs, I don't think we do 'lowly' etc. unless it comes to non classic Black Falco owners of course.
TC - My employer is trying to be a good employer and I will get some redundancy even though I have not done the two year minimum. I think about two weeks prorata but I haven't seen or processed all the details yet.

Sorry to hear your bad news Keith. I hope something turns up for you soon. Things are really bad in many industries and professions.
I'm waiting to hear about my future - I have to say after what's gone on in the banking world I think people would hate me less if I was a child murderer !
Good look to you and your family.
