BikeJohnny - where's it gone?

Just tried opening up BikeJohnny's website (I look on every once in a while to see what offers they've got), and the front page says they're no longer accepting orders! What gives?
Given the reason for ApriliaRidersite moving over here (funding from Renegade to support ApriliaRidersite vanishing), is there an implication for Ridersite?

Been lurking here for a while now, but have broken cover as we've just been through this over at
www.FJRowners.com.
That's another of Joosheads sites, and Jan gave us the lowdown 11th post in this thread
http://www.fjrowners.ws/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=5943
Not sure what the long term implications are

alright - so the real question is - what are the running costs?
do we go for another sponsor or sort it ourselves?

Well I should start by welcoming you fizzog - welcome to ridersite.
Thanks for pointing us in the direction of the news on Bikejohnny.
Not sure where it leaves us but I would like to thank Bikejohnny for the support they've given to this forum - it really has been valued by so many people.
I can't believe that their sponsorship has been commercially worthwhile for them - I guess it's clear that's not the prime reason they've provided it - so even more thanks ..... and personally I'm sorry that I've not really got round to spending money with you.
I'm sure the forum will continue - I think too many of us value it too much to let it go. Guess we just need to understand the situation a bit better and what has to be done by when.

The Falco lot were orphans once before... we are tough and know how to survive on the streets

I'd just like to echo Andy's views and thank BikeJohnny for the support they have provided to us.
We have claimed to be a RiderSite since the Falco group arrived, but seem to have mainly been Falco owners with a few ex Falco owners and a few old RiderSite members.
Perhaps if Fizzog and his people were interested, we could help keep the costs down and have a new combined site. We would both have our independance, so it need not be a problem, but obviously we have to understand the current situation much better first.

Ta for the invite HowardQ, but its not really up to me as I'm just one of the happy campers over there. However I'm sure Joos and his team will be considering all the hosting options. Admin haven't been in touch since that thread linked to previously, but it's early days yet. We used to be able to purchase contributions towards the running costs of FJRowners via Bike Johnny, but that opportunity to help out has obviously gone now.
Would be sad to see the forum close though, it was the first FJR specific one, and have made some good friends on our various weekend rideouts

It would be interesting of someone could do a post showing what the running costs are as I and probably most of us, have no idea?
I cling on round the edges here cos RS has a lot of memories for me - prolly hardly shared by anyone else here but still..........
I'd like to echo what was said on the FJR forum about thanks to Jake and Joos for providing this place for us, think I made a couple of contributions but certainly not on a regular basis.

I am an Fjr site member and was told about the Ridersite, I can’t see how Joos & Jan can or will support both sites and as this is a general bike site the Fjr site is properly numbered.
There are bandwidth concerns because if everyone comes over from the Fjr site the bandwidth will still stay the same so the cost will be similar. Therefore, Joos is in bit of a financial dilemma.

Im sure something will square itself away. If needs be the FJR can migrate and join the RS massive and we'll sell the falconeer's bodies to raise funds...
Agree about the bandwidth, but pooling one or more sites together creates a larger captive audience, which with a bit of prompting might just return to days of RS old and cough up some membership fee in return for access to areas that could be locked down..
Speculation. J n J will no doubt have a cunning plan. If not im not far behind em with one.

I don't reckon their livers would be salvageable, and you can forget hair transplant donors.

Do you think the no access idea works? in past on different boards I have noticed a high number of members don’t join as a one member will join a share the login details or just get the info for them.
On other sites I have noticed members recommending workshops/servicing businesses so how about a referral cost it could be a good way of raising money or a prepay able one off charge.
I am aware that it's not an easy problem to solve but a few smaller measures are generally better or both.

Mm Yeah, know what you mean. Not necessarily a no access, more of increased access to other areas, such as say, webmail, or somesuch worthy add on. RS used to have it before and it worked pretty well. Changed when the Site revisited it's roots and stripped off the bolt on scripting for Version 4.
There's plenty of options for enticing funds in.
Naked Falconeers I think we can lay to bed as not a good one..
