Price of a pint?

#1 Post by Falcoholic » Fri Mar 13, 2009 6:36 pm

So how much can I expect to pay for a pint of Guinness in Ireland should I decide to do a wee tour prior to the NW200 this year?

Yeah and I have booked my ferry for Sunday 10th May. :smt001

Think it was about £2.60 a pint in Joey's bar Ballymoney last year.

Keep that quiet! If the missus reads it she'll end up spending the whole holiday pissed out of her head.

Don't worry. When you are here, I'll take you to my favourite Chateau near Narbonne Beach. They sell very decent stuff there, but it's 2 Euro's a litre, so if you have a top-box or tank bag you should be able to fit a plastic "virac" in. Red, white or rose is really drinkable, although all the locals mostly drink rose in the summer.

Looks like we'll be based on the North side of the border and just do our we run outs into the south during the day.

I'm getting a good feeling about this summer already... To be fair, we have a surfeit of places near us producing eminently drinkable wine at excessively reasonable prices. I don't think you can go wrong in the Languedoc, really.

Oh yes, we should be over mid-May for a couple of weeks, but it will be the working holiday. Coming down in the Transporter van all loaded up with building tackle and going back all loaded up with wine. :smt003 :smt030

I got a 20% discount card for our local co-operative in Tautavel, near Perpignan

Works out at under 20 Euros for the 10 litre boxes of proper Cotes De Roussillon Villages - very tasty & we often come back with around 200 litres in the boot :smt003

FM - I'm in your neck of the woods about 2nd/3rd June with a couple of mates en route to Millau and points North via Agde (having ferried to Santander 31st May).
Any advice where to stay in the Carcasonne area?

Hi Chabby - depends what you want really. There are lots of budget hotels in Carcassonne and also in Narbonne, which usually cost about 40 - 50 Euro's per room. But there are also plenty of Bed & Breakfast's as well. As Carcassonne is normally pretty well jammed with tourists, it is a good idea to be out of town a wee bit. There is a Formula 1 about 5Km outside of Carcassonne which is cheap (they normally have a double bed plus a bunk above) and they are about 35 Euro's a night, but there are many Etap, B&B and other brands nearby (also near the airport).
Try www.hotel-bb.com or www.etap.com to start with, as they are national chains. let me know when you are down here and I'll arrange to meet up.

Maybe we can meet up when I'm over next time -
I'm currently plotting to hide one of me TDM's over there this spring & leave it there until next spring.
(when I shall swap it with another one :smt003 )
