some silly clown from BRAKE was on radio 5 live today - along with James May who proceeded to say a lot of sense. We then had a retired traffic cop, and now forensic traffic expert who told the brake representative how wrong she was... was amusing I found

seems as if the public, in the main, is against it so we just have to hope it does not happen

do it around here and the commuters are in the shite - no motorways, very few dual carriageways - how long to get to norwich from lowestoft - a mere 25 mile journey that takes over an hour now would be a nightmare....

.... and all it would mean is that even more people would be breaking the regulation and the rest would just be a further 10mph over that limit.

Higher fines, more points ..... wonder what might be driving this ....
Oh yes that "vision zero" crap too.

Trouble is the speed limits on many roads are currently too low.

I also think it will bring increased danger. Slower you go, the more bored you get, the less you concentrate on the task in hand ..... obvious consequences .....


Very recently a lot of rural roads round here have had 50mph limit signs popping up on them. On some stretches of them I'm confident that twice that speed would not necessarily be dangerous given the right driver, vehicle and conditions .... not that I'd have any experience of this .... obviously ...
.... not all stretches of them though ... right speed in the right place ... you can come unstuck if you get that wrong.

I can't really believe it and just wonder what it's a smoke screen for.

I really do feel that the wording of these online petitions is getting worse and worse. TBH if I was the-powers-that-be I wouldn't take any notice of that, it almost screams "I know no-one's going to take any notice so I can't be bothered to make a considered argument".

My thoughts too. I completely agree with the aim of this petition but the case has been so poorly argued that it really weakens the potential of the protest.

I guess the problem with these petitions is that is that the first one up prevails. A real petition is usually the result of a number of people debating the issue and formulating an effective wording. With these online petitions it's whoever is quickest with a half-baked case. Nobody can then follow up with a better petition as the ball is already rolling.
