I want to try to phone my sister in Victoria to find out if she's ok, but I'm sure the number I have in my book isn't complete!
Can anyone help?
What I have is 0061 (I know that's Oz) then 5856 1922 Does that look right? My other sister tried to phne yesterday and couldn't reach the number - it may be just cos the lines are down, or jammed of course.
She lives in Rushworth, about 100 miles N of Melbourne. I haven't found any mention of Rushworth in the fire reports on the net, but most of the placenames used aren't ones I can find!

Cheers both, that's done the trick!
The awful thing is that if there's no reply, or we can't connect, there could be be so many reasons why so we won't know anything - my sister will phone them later when it's a sensible time in the morning there.
But I've emailed a friend in NSW anyway, so when he reads it he may be able to find out something if we haven't been in contact.

Hi BG,
You need to have your prefix for International dialing, then the country code, then the regional code followed by the number.
Something like 0011-61-3-12345678
If you want to check the fire status, go here:
http://www.dse.vic.gov.au/dse/index.htm and follow the link "Fire Incident Information" (Centre of page).
There is a fire at Rushworth, and it's listed as
"23/01 BENDIGO 58 Bailieston - Reedy Lake Road 12 km S Rushworth 14:22 Feb 05 Controlled 2 STATE FOREST"
Cheers,
Viking
(Hmmmm... I won't be going riding in the hills for a while, I think. Looks like most of the good roads are in the middle of the fires!)

Thanks for that, Viking! Bookmarked that site - was looking at a similar site earlier but I now realise the one I had earlier was for fires on private land.
I found the phone number from K's link and Gillian tried but all she got was an 'unobtainable' tone - not sure why cos the number was right. I tried later and got through but there was no reply, I just got her message service.
But I had a reply from my friend in NSW - a biker of course! - not only did he find the correct number, but he phoned Shirley and spoke to her and they are fine! Apparently they're about 60 miles from the worst of the fires.
I've known Brownie for a number of years via the internet, prolly 6 or 7, but only met him once when they stopped over in the UK to visit relatives on their way home from America (they emigrated many years ago). But it's a real friendship and he just proved that! What a great bloke!
Thanks for the help everyone, and isn't the internet wonderful!
