Anyone from the Prison service who may be able to assist me?
I am currently dealing with a case where our client served time in Borstal between 1960 and 1963.
I am trying to find documentary evidence or some way to confirm that he actually did time in Borstal, and the court records have not helped me, and prison records usually have the 75 - 100 year disclosure rule.
Can anyone point me in the direction of where I may be able to prove that our client served his sentence?
I am happy to discuss the matter by way of PM or personal email where I can explain in more detail why I need this information, nothing dodgy I can asure you.

Things probably worked quite differently then, but if the Local Authority had a Youth Justices Section at that time, they may know. Problem here is that most Local Authorities have changed massively over the last 40 odd years!
However, even if Youth Justices existed at that time it would be a bit unlikely that they still had paper records, and there were no PCs then!
May just be worth a try in that area, but personally I think you will find it difficult to obtain this information if not possible via Court or Prison records,
Good Luck !

Exactly. They can hardly refuse him information about himself based on data protection. Not rationally that is.Chabby wrote:If your client went to prison the details should still be on his PNC record.
He can apply to view any information held on him by use of the data protection act.
The locking of records won't apply as the information he seeks is about him.

The chap is suffering from asbestosis, and in order to maximise his claim we/I need to fill the gap in his employement history, and there may be a claim against his former custodians!Gio wrote:I'd like to know why that information is needed has his past life caught up with him?
Is he being held up as a good example of what ails this country?
PNC records cannot be accessed even though we only need to prove his conviction, and he is incapable of applying under data protection as I have already explained.
The problem is that the prison service only hold records for 10 years after the date of release, but there must be some other way of being freely able to obtain the information I would have thought?

We are the most heavily snooped on and monitored society in the world, they'll have access to all your email, know where you are from the mobile phone you carry (now being enhanced with GPS) but nobody knows who was previously convicted of a crime a few years back.
Does this client know the names of anyone that spent time with him that could corroborate the fact he was there?
Maybe a longshot ....
