Ha, that got your attention!

I'm looking for someone who knows how to work out a rotating shift pattern for an office of 8 people!

Was trying to help my boss do it the other day and I feel there must be a better way! Does anyone know of a program that does it for you?

Erm, the template is the least of our problems!

It's working out the pattern that's the problem!

Acksherly, I've just been summarising what we need for someone else, and I'm not sure it can be done - think we have a 'bums on seats' problem - think my boss has taken on too many bums for the number of seats! :smt017

thats easy draw a vertical line , put everybodys name down the line draw a horizontal line and put the days / weeks etc and now draw a diagonal line from the top left to bottom right , you now pick a name scroll across untill it hits diag. line scroll down till it hits that day , and thats when their shift starts , works fo me

Yeah Joe - it's working out the pattern that's the difficult bit - fitting people into it is even simpler than your way of doing it!

give a blank rota to the people themselves and ask what they would like to do pattern wise

then put in the replies into a new sheet - then see what shortfalls you have and who needs to be moved etc

worked for me when i ran my own units

I dont believe they get a choice!?

Make a Rota. Do it with no favouritism and ignore what the Day is (They all end in Y.) Tell them if they need to change, they are responsible for finding a replacement and for that replacement turning up. First one that whinges. Punch them.

Works fine for me :smt017

how many shifts? do you need the same number of people on each shift? does it include weekends? how do you account for the missing hour (ie working 39 hours in a 40 hour week etc). do you have restrictions on women working night shifts?

let me know the answers and I will have a go.
