Liberal Keir Starmer, 45, will take over the Crown Prosecution Service from October.

But his appointment as Director of Public Prosecutions for England and Wales raised concerns last night.

As well as defending a paedophile’s right to remain anonymous, Mr Starmer QC has:

BATTLED for the rights of asylum seekers to claim benefits.

HELPED two terror suspects overturn control orders.

QUESTIONED the legality of British forces fighting in the Iraq War.

He has also spoken out against the death penalty and worked for nothing to save brutal killers from being executed in the Caribbean.

Senior police officers were said to be “dismayed” by the appointment.

Don't quite understand the Nanny State title but seems like a good appointment in this day and age of state control, surveillance and erosion of civil liberties to have someone in authority that defends civil rights. Might bring a bit of balance.
Reading the articles seems as though most of the things he's done are worthwhile - though I can't understand the defending of anonymity of a convicted paedophile.
