I get a better class of email than Howard. 
H M Revenue and Customs have stated that they would never ask for personal information by email, so you should not respond to any such requests.
http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/security/spoofs.htmI am writing to warn you of a scam in which fraudsters are sending out emails, supposedly from H M Revenue and Customs, saying that you are due a tax refund and asking for bank details etc. The emails are very realistic and have the correct H M Revenue and Customs header and logo.
