After a two year gap for various reasons, I will be very shortly be planning a trip to Assen for the 2009 GP.

It is held on the last weekend of June with race day being on the Saturday, so our trip normally departs on the Thursday staying in Amsterdam for Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights returning home on the Sunday.

The hotel in Amsterdam is only a brisk 5 minute or slow 10 minute walk from the city centre and the hotel staff are very bike friendly. It just means an early start on Saturday morning for the 125 mile ride to Assen but it is worth it for the ride home afterwards.

At the moment I am just getting a feel for numbers who may be interested. Some guys from this site have come on the trip before (who I hope enjoyed themselves) and I hope I can keep the price about on par with previous trips which is usually around the £265 mark which includes Ferry, Hotel and Grandstand seats at Assen.

The cost can be spread over several months as well, so the whole amount does not have to be found in one hit.

If anyone is interested, let me know as it will give me an indication of the sort of numbers I might be looking at as being realsitic I have taken 40+ on the trip before, but 20 is a comfortable number +/- 5

I'd be interested in going but am between bikes at the mo. Would it be feasible / acceptable for someone to go in a car (Lotus)? Its a sort of 4 wheel motorcycle.

You can take/drive/ride whatever you like Price would be a little more on an individual basis because I can't book a car on the ferry as part of a group booking, however, some people in the past have made their own travel arrangements and met us in Amsterdam for various reasons, so that may be a option if you were in a position to secure a particularly good deal on the ferry crossing and then the price would be adjusted accordingly.

I am travelling from Australia to Europe next year & have convinced the good woman that I/we MUST see Assen (gonna be in Holland anyway).
Anyone know where I might start looking for tickets to raceday?
Preferably a stand?
And what stand should we be aiming for?

Any help would be appreciated.

TC will no doubt have an answer, if not, plenty of the lads have been to and go to Assen and will no doubt be able to point you in the right direction

I think most countries have at least one ticket agent who deals with motogp tickets, you should be able to find them on a websearch. Even if they don't usually deal with Assen they may be able to get hold of tickets or point you in the right direction.

Obviously they haven't started advertising next year's race yet but probably will have by the beginning of next season.

As for stands, I would say the Geert Timmer Tribune is your best bet - right by the chicane at the start of the main straight (always good for a final lap battle) and IIRC there's a big screen right in front of it at the end of the pitlane so you won't miss anything.

As back_marker has already mentioned, most countries have agents appointed by either DORNA or the circuit themselves, or as he mentions book directly with the circuit. I get my tickets from the UK agent and if memory serves me correctly, they only supply to UK postal addresses.

I have tried most locations at Assen over the years, Struben Tribune (pre revamp) used to be a good spot providing you were on the back row as you could follow the bikes around 2/3 of the circuit without having to use the large TV screens.

However for the past 16 years or so I have found Winterdyke Tribune to be by far and away the best stand (Personal opinion and of those who often accompany us) in that it is as near as damit opposite the chicane going into the start/finish straight, it is opposite the entrance to pit lane, it is one of the sweeping fastest parts of the new circuit, and it is good for making a quick escape at the end of the meet.

If you don't mind standing then quite often you can buy on the gate, but Grandstand tickets will be snapped up very quickly.

I've wanted to go to Assen for years and the thought of going via Amsterdam as well as staying there just might tip it in the balance.

We have had a support vehicle in the past go with us, but to be honest it was a bit of a pain as parking in Amsterdam for anything with more than 2 wheels is a nightmare and expensive.

Falcoholic, we sail from Dover to Calais (Decent breakfast on the boat) and then cruise up to Amsterdam arriving around 4 in the afternoon.

We have had some people in the past who live on the eastern seaboard go over to the Hook from Harwich and meet us in Amsterdam. Possible option.

This whole travelling to Europe thing is a wee bit daunting.
I can travel over 5000kms and still be in one state here in Oz. Melbourne to Brisbane is about 1800kms & 18hrs by bike - I am told it's not like that in Europe......
