Especially sad after Joey's death in 2000.
We all know that racing on roads like the TT and NW 200 are probably the biggest thrill you can get on a bike, but they are also the most dangerous.
Very sad.

Two of his sons were in the race too.

Even worse after Martin Finnegan being killed a little earlier, makes you wonder how they can keep pure road racing going.
I love it and hope it stays, because there is nothing more spectacular, but cannot be denied that circuit racing is a bit safer.
Having said that when a 250 stoker seizes at 160 mph, you only have the slightest fraction of a second to get the clutch in to save going over the bars. Unfortunately he never managed that, got thrown down the road and the bike behind hit him.
Very sad for all parties.

Its very sad...........but.............
1. They know it and will always compete
2. Its got nothing to do with the nanny states opinion
3. I'd rather go out with a bang than a whimper, which is obviously their attitude as well.
RIP and all the best to the Dunlop Family.

What Gio said.
If people want to risk their livbes for the sport they love, who should deny them that opportunity?

Found out about it Thursday night, just as we were walking into Joey's bar in Ballymoney. ( been for the NW200 )
Very sombre evening but the bar stayed open until after 11 o.clock. ( Thought it should have been closed as a mark of respect )
Hundreds of people at Joey's memorial garden and his bar on Friday.
But if it can get better, Roberts son William won the 250 race on Saturday, and dedicated the win to his father.

Very emotional scenes in the winners enclosure after Michael Dunlops victory in the 250 race. I had a bit of a lump in my throat I have to admit.
Apart from the sadness of Roberts death it was a great weekends racing as always.
I hope it keeps going and doesn't fall victim to the nanny brigade.
