The UK Government recently decided to ban the sale, manufacture, hire and import of samurai swords. While there are some exceptions to this general ban, we don’t think it’s practical to enforce a policy based on these.
The sale of samurai swords on eBay.co.uk will therefore be completely prohibited when the new law comes into effect on 6th April.
Regards,
The eBay Team
Was this new ban widely publicised? I didnt know!?

Saw it on BBC news a couple of days ago (over the weekend some time).
Not sure how it's going to be enforceable, or more to the point, why? You can still make/buy/sell a British Army sword (sorry, don't know if there's a proper name for them) or replica, how is a samurai sword really any different to any other?

It had registered, as part of a news story I think. Can't remember what about.

The December link beside that article is the one I was thinking of.

Peed me off to be honest, I'd been looking to get one for my Birthday in May. Not an original but a replica... like theyve banned...
Thats that scuppered then! Feksakes.
Does this mean Fireblades are banned too?

A samurai sword would be good for defending yourself with, but people miss the alternatives.
A short sword, perhaps?
Maybe a hand-and-a-half sword?
Or go the whole hog and get a Scottish claymore, for when you really need to make your point.

Reminds me of one of my favourite movie moments - in one of the Indiana Jones films (they're all the same, I don't know which) when an oriental person comes towards him brandishing a huge oriental sword in that oriental way - so he pulls out a gun and shoots him!
Made me laff even the 349th time I saw it!
(Did I ever mention Mike loves old films?)

Yeh but when you watch it the 350th time it just makes you want to fall on your Samurai sword, and now you can't have one!
Suppose you could overdose on painkillers, but then again no, you can only buy a couple of small packs at a time.
Getting more difficult, perhaps I'll just go for a run on the bike.
