Just got a fine for not taxing my car........
Was trying to stop having to tax and insure all 4 vehicles at the same time to only got 6mths tax last year and completely forgot about it......... should have retaxed it in October. I'm surprised I got this far without being stopped.
So £40 fine and got to pay back tax.
What I didn't know is that they no longer send out reminders 'cause that's what prompts me to tax the car normally.
Bummmmmmmmmm

No reminders?
From the DVLA online licensing site.......
You tell us the vehicle. You will need either the 16 digit reference number shown on your renewal reminder, or the 11 digit reference number from your Registration Document/Certificate (also known as the Logbook) and your vehicle registration mark (numberplate).

Speaking as one who has to deliver dozens of DVLA reminders every month..... they were still sending them out at the beginning of Jan.

really! That'll teach me to believe the girls at work.
It's our postie....... we've had this happen before and the DVLA were "tough".
Maybe I'll write to them anyhow and see if they will waive the fine. Happy to pay the back tax and the car is taxed now

I've also just paid £40 because I forgot to re-sorn one of my bikes at the end of October. Surely sorning once until you want to go back on the road should be enough.
I've currently got 2 race bikes with V5's which will never go back on the road due to the amount of mods to them and I've got to remember to sorn the things every year - its a stupid system.

Another really annoying thing is that when you buy a vehicle that's been SORNed, the seller quite correctly tells you 'It's been SORNed till April' or some such - but when you send in the V5c for change of keeper, you have to SORN it again!
I only found that out bt chance when I got my car, just had to do it with the new trike too.
Got the reminder for my car tax the other day but although I've already renewed the insurance, because it runs out the day before the tax, I can't tax it online because it doesn't show as being insured through that date...
Another trip to the Post Office then, and will have to be the one in town which means paying 40p for the car park and walking to the PO and queuing for ages cos there aren't enough staff behind the counter..... cos the little PO round the corner, where I can pull up on the forecourt without having to pay, isn't allowed to car tax even thought the PO clerk is trained to do it.
Why not? I ask myself.
Then I answer, so that the govt can say it doesn't get used enough and close it down.
The tragedy of old age is not that one is old, but that one is young.

If they are never going back on the road why not say they are scrapped.

I was thinking of that - but if I want to sell them on as track bikes a lot of people like to see a V5 to prove its not stolen.
