Fairytale of New York

Apparently there has been some kerfuffle about the lyrics of this piece of s##t .... Radio 1 were uneasy about the word 'faggot' and censored it.

Well I say censor the whole bloody song..... It's awful - quite possibly the worst of all the tripe they roll out at this time of year.

Why, it could only be made worse if UB40 did a cover :smt078

Don't know why they've suddenly decided to worry about it now - it's not been a problem every other year since it was released, not stopped them playing it 3 times a day before now.

I quite like it though, better than the usual crap that gets dragged out every year

The censorship will guarantee it's place in the charts again this Christmas.
Great song from great artists. :smt003

Apparently it's 7yrs ago today that Kirsty MacColl died at the age of 41 the same year when she was hit by a speedboat while diving during a holiday in Mexico.

I've always quite liked it as well, thought it made a change from the normal Christmas crap.
Did it really take the BBC 30 years (or whatever) to listen to the lyrics?
W T F is wrong with meatballs anyway, I've always quite liked them. :smt017

as they informed us on the radio last night, they took exception to the word slut as well as faggot.... 'mum what's a slut?' was the next question ..... she must know what a faggot is :smt003 :smt012

Funny isn't it, that a song about the breakdown in the relationship between 2 people is considered a Christmas song just because it mentions the word "Christmas" in it

.... but how many people ever listen to what songs are actually saying ....

As opposed to "Ernie the fastest milkman in the west" which has even less to with crimble but it just so happens that was when it was released and made it to number one (mainly because that's the only time of year you could get away with selling that kind of shite).

Or how about Band Aid or East 17's "stay another day"?
