Did you know that the ex transport minister David Jamieson who is famous for his refusal to overturn the legislation to allow motorcyclists to wear black visors despite overwhelming evidence to support our claim is now President of the Motorcycle Association?

I have been at the Prince Michael International Road Safety Awards at the Savoy Hotel in London today and he was there in that capacity. I wonder who was responsible for giving him that role, not a motorcyclist I bet?

Had me puzzled for a while ....... this is the Motorcycle Industry Association ?

No - the motorcycle idustry ie the people interested in floggin you bikes. Dont see why it matters, tbh. Kids simply ignore the law which is largely unenforced like most other minor regulations. And the industry still flogs tinted visors, illegal road exhausts, undersized plates - so it doesnt bother them either!

You are of course absolutely right in what you say, however, what does concern me is that as president of the MIA he can influence the type of bikes introduced to the UK or to be more specific the specification levels, for example speed restrictors fitted as standard, or BHP limits.

I am not saying that will happen, but having worked wit the MCIA, that is the sort of influence he can have, and earing in mind he rejected black visors onthe grounds that the "Pedestrian Association" did not think it was a particularly good idea despite evidence from respected bodies that showed that there was some value to be had in making black visors legal.

It is the voice and influence he has that worries me as it will/could affect the retail market.

If it wasn't him it would be someone else, probably with the same set of values. And there'll always be a way round the restrictions, legal or otherwise.

It is a concern tho.

The people who are fully supporting the new cheese cutter wires as dividers on single track contry roads.
I'll try and find a link on this if I can, it was in yesterday's Metro paper, the basics are a system of steel posts with cable links to stop head on accidents on country roads. Seems it has widespread EU support, full support of the AIM and road "safety" groups here. It has been installed in New Zealand for some months, where they have only managed to slice one teenage biker in half so far, but are expecting more.
After all the fuss about fitting blocks under the normal armco to save killing bikers, how the hell can they now justify fitting these cheese cutters.
P.S. Just got home and read the MCN that should have been here yesterday morning, there's a big article on the new cheese cutter fences in there. They look even better than the description!
