Quiz 3

#1 Post by Gio » Sat Dec 01, 2007 8:13 am

Here's this weeks quiz, I'm glad its not me doing it as I'm sure I'd only get a couple right.

Good luck and the answers will be posted next Saturday morning before noon.

1. In 1952 a German motorcycle manufacturer brought out a bike that resulted in the classic 2 stroke configuration. What was that configuration.
Here is a picture of the model it was based on that came out in 1951.

2. This bike caused a sensation at the 1956 Milan Show, what is it?

Image

3. Name this bike?

Image

4. What is so unusual about this race bike and can you name it?

Image

5. This bike took its name from an award given to racers who completed a race lap at Brooklands, name either the bike or the award?

Image

6. In the early 70’s a Japanese manufacturer had to turn to 2 stroke technology. What was the name of the bike? A clue is it has 3 cylinders.

Image

7. In 1973 this manufacturer brought out its most famous bike, it had 3 cylinders, but was over engineered (it weighed 236 Kg) What is it?

Image

8. This bike was so advanced that the last horizontal single built in 1976 had the same bore and stroke as this bike, what is it?

Image

9. This bike had a unique engine layout. As the engine warmed up the tie rod caused the camshaft housing to rotate slightly, one of the benefits of this was as the engine heated up it maintained the valve clearances as the engine got taller, what bike is it?

Image

10. This was the first mass produced Japanese bike to have hub centre steering, what is it?

Sorry to be a pain Gio but a couple of queries....

Q1. You don't want the model - just the configuration (engine layout?)?
Q6. Do you mean early 80's?

...and if Q4 isn't a scale model???

Yeah, Q1 ... what do you mean by "configuration" - I know what the bike is but I can find nothing much unusual to suggest the configuration is anything out of the ordinary .... provided that my understanding of configuration is right. Its a bit of a broad term.

There's another that's foxing the hell out of me too. Thought things were going rather well to begin with .... but there are a few stinkers in there!

Anyway, thanks again for causing us the headaches!

Yeah - Right!

Nah had a bit of a look last night - been at the NEC show today (second time this year - had to take my son to get some new gloves - as well as see the bikes)
Off to church in 5 mins - then I've stuff to do for work when I get back in .... so won't get much time to look at the remaining headscratchers today.

Not sure how to put this without giving the game away................... How about if I said engine block layout, ie internals.

We'd better watch out Tim, Gio's come over all "school-master-ish"

Fail to write them down again and you'll be in detention!

(Don't tell him I didn't write them down either)

I had a go on no 5, was most alarming, the brakes were awful :smt005

I would love to own no 3 though, it looks very well built.

So has anyone got "almost there" (nothing like putting some pressure on the rest) :smt044
